Thailand -- Out of Shape
We have been focusing on growth (economically and democratically) for some time. We even dread and shiver with the thought of slow or no growth. Today the whole world is slowing down (economically) and becoming afflicted with maladies ranging from malnutrition (limited resources including food and some materials), toxic environment (pollution, greenhouse gases/climate change and depletion of forests and biodiversity), poor practices (inefficiency, ignorance and corruption) and governance (regulation, care and responsibility), lack of vision (modelling and goal) and inspiration (examples and quests). Thailand is just one country among many - all are struggling for best position and survival in the drying puddle. Survival is misinterpretted or distorted by self-interest by politicians, industrialists and economists. Instead of for survival of the country and the people, efforts are directed at sustaining financial systems and enterprises. The past financial crises set precedences and priority for governments to prop ill-financed conditions and symptoms even at the expenses of all other economic sectors and the downstream impacts (in space and time) on genearations of people and inustries that follow.
Just like people, Thailand the country is 'out of shape' and not realizing its abnormalities. We often hear people say things like: I've been having too many good times lately; it would take a couple weeks of exercises to get back into shape; I will cut down this and that will fix it; and 'why can't you love me the way I am?'
But fact is this 'once out of shape, it is difficult (physically and mentally) to get back into shape'. Also fact is from 'out of shape' condition, many illnesses arise and make more difficult to sustain life itself!
Countries are just a collection of people and families in a limited space. Thailand is not an exception -- not in the eyes of other countries or men -- not an experiment in politics or economics -- and not a fairy tale 'happily forever after'...
Thailand is out of shape. Admit it. Now we have to do something about this. We want to be 'lean', 'strong' and 'healthy' again. We have to lose 'excess weight' and 'bad habits'. We have 'work more', 'get into good habits' and add more 'quality to life'. We all know what we have to do for our body. Yes it is the same for our country. We all know! But we find it very hard to do. Why?
First, we have problems with vision -- see what we are and what we want to be. The Past is just that - history to learn about mistakes and successes. We can't dwell on because the Change is already upon us. The Future is already unfolding before our eyes. The Future is here -- ready or not!
We need to look at ourselves and see how we can fit in -- the Future. No not just to get by. We want to be Somebody. We want to Make It in the Future. For this we need Vision of what we want to be. And then we need to get our Body and our Mind into Shape. We will have to be Fit and able to Go the distance.
The Future is not a Gift or a Destiny handed down to us. It is a space-time -- arena for us and others to compete and to cooperate. We can make friends and enemies with others - world-fellows. They will have preferences, strengths and weaknesses in some ways. Like us they will strive to get in Shape - to achieve their vision and dreams. They and we will need world resources and Clever ways to utilize these limited or available resources. [Clever ways! we hear it right. For example: Burning fossils and polluting our environment is not clever. Investing in solar energy and energy storage technologies is clever as long as the Sun is shining we can always have clean energy. Burning fossils will always accumulate costs. But collecting Solar enegy costs, after initial set-up, is diminishing. Burning fossils degrades our health, degrades our opportunities to be in better shape and better health. Worse is fossils will poison not only us but also our children's Mind.]
Second, we have problems admitting 'We Are Out of Shape'. We have this habit of finding Excuses and Cover-ups to keep face. And sometimes, we get angry and waste our energy and resources in denying. Would it not be better to quietly note criticism and to work on improvement of ourselves instead of carrying chips on our shoulders? We need to change this habit and our response to negative views. It is much like smoking or drinking habit, we need to change this habit together. We need reminders and minders to keep focus on changing over. We need to train ourselves for what we want to be.
Many old sayings tell us 'the road to success is never smooth' and 'walking together makes the journey more pleasant'. So, there isn't anything we don't already know about 'Getting There'. It is going to be hard and it is going to be fun.
Is That it? Vision and Preparation! No. These are what we must have before we 'Leave the Block' - to go in the race. Without Vision and Preparation, our chance of getting there is small. Well prepared, in shape and know where to go, all we need then is to Do It and Keep On Till we're There.

โดยส่งไปวิเคราะห์หาสารเคมีกำจัดศัตรูพืชตกค้างที่ห้องปฏิบัติการในประเทศอังกฤษ ซึ่งสามารถวิเคราะห์หาสารพิษตกค้างได้กว่า 450 ชนิดพบว่า พริกแดงมีสารเคมีตกค้าง 100% กะเพรา 66.7% ถั่วฝักยาว 66.7% คะน้า 55.6% ผักกาดขาวปลี 33.3% ผักบุ้งจีน 22.2% มะเขือเทศ 11.1% แตงกวา 11.1% มะเขือเปราะ และกะหล่ำปลี 0% ส่วนผลไม้พบว่าส้มสายน้ำผึ้ง ฝรั่ง มีสารเคมีตกค้าง 100% แก้วมังกร 71.4% มะละกอ 66.7% มะม่วงน้ำดอกไม้ 44.4% และแตงโม 0%
ในภาพรวมมีผักและผลไม้ มีสารพิษตกค้างเกินค่ามาตรฐานสูงถึง 46.4% ที่สำคัญพบว่าผักและผลไม้ที่ได้รับตรา Q จากสำนักงานมาตรฐานสินค้าเกษตรและอาหารแห่งชาติ (มกอช.) มีสารเคมีมากที่สุด และสูงถึง 57.1% ส่วนที่ได้รับการรับรองออร์แกนิก ไทยแลนด์ (Organic Thailand) ที่ไม่ควรตรวจพบการตกค้าง ก็พบการตกค้างสูงเกินมาตรฐานถึง 25% หรือ 1 ใน 4 ของจำนวนตัวอย่าง...

แน่นอนค่ะ ทุกๆ คนตอนนี้ต้องรู้จักดูแลตนเองและครอบครัวให้ดีที่สุดในทุกๆ ด้านค่ะ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเศรษฐกิจ การศึกษา สุขภาพ การเดินทาง อาหารการกิน สารพัดค่ะ

This is always a difficult question -- when we are in difficulty, how do we get out of it? The arguments are in these lines: 1) help our 'self' first, then help others when we can; 2) cooperate or share what we have and help each other out; 3) get rid of all other competitors so we can have all; 4) walk away, the world is big and enough for everyone's need; 5) let's end it here, now!
Which argument we subscribe to can set conditions and practices in the society we live in. And which society we want to live in?

The banknotes days are coming to a close. More and more people are playing with difital money -- some bits in memory devices (sustained by electricity and people in the system). The game is much faster and much wider for 90+% of the people. We don't see much 'dealing and whealing' - most are done over Internet and 'Clouds'. Gold too is fast becoming digitized and bought and sold on air. Not many gold bars are moved! And you see us go back to bartering foodstuff and labour?
Most 'Reserve Banks' of countries around the world are 'reducing' bank rates to reduce governments' burden to service debt (incurred from 'government' overspending and corruption - debt are paid by 'taxes' -- people pay). Some countries have large debts with foreign countries (because government bonds are sold to commercial banks around the world) and may not like to pay certain countries (because of fear that they may take... advantages.. over), so what the best way now to get out of this jan? Wipe the board clean -- start the finace system again? All that needed are some wars and destruction of some (electricity) power grids and some Internet connections....

Let me ask what do you think of this: US has public (federral government) debt of around $3 trillions or 75% of GDP (compare to Japan 200%, Thailand 40%), the US Reserve Bank has been lowering bank rate, now is 1.5%, so that some $450 billions go to service this debt.
Now if the USD value is lower, many countries who hold US bonds would lose some money, so to protect the value of their holding they must prop up USD. Major holders like China (also creditor) is in the position to help US to keep USD high (so the value of their holding is high) knowing full well that USD is actually less valuable. But developing countries selling goods and services to US are also keeping USD high (by lowering their own currency and so lowering values of their goods and services) making US people richer and their own people poorer.
Is this a sound 'economic policy'? Is there other ways?
Why Thais pay 'global prices' for global goods (mobile phones, cars, etc), but only get local prices for global goods and services? (Why workers in TH get Bht15,000 per month, but workers in AU get 10 times more for the same work with better working conditions -- the quality of work output may be different a little but not 10 times better?
Is this a sound 'economic' policy to keep labour cheap (people poor)?

Thailand is almost out of shape today. At least, her shape has been distorted more and more since the latest coup. I am looking forward to coming back to the previous days when Thai people have enough dignity.
Our public detb per GDP is approximately 3 times and 5 times lower than that of the US and Japan respectively. But I notice that the advancement or growth of the country is 100 times lower than those two countries.
......But developing countries selling goods and services to US are also keeping USD high (by lowering their own currency and so lowering values of their goods and services) making US people richer and their own people poorer....
This is whiy I was so upset with the private sector when they condemn the government or politicians who try to improve the wage and salary scales. They even threaten to move to other countries

Shouldn't we be asking why induftrialized (developed) countries now have their dirty production done in developing countries? Surely it is not because workers in developing countries are better skilled or demand less safe and less pay conditions or most components are made also in developing countries or laws and regulations and government incentives (BOI and tax discounts) or ...
We can pick up an Iphone, turn it around and note that the phone is made in China. Drive off a new car and open the bonnet to see that it is made in Thailand. So what happened? Apple, Hondaand etc are now design, product R&D and marketing corporation - clean and smart and well financed. The dirty work pf making products is outsourced to developing countries.
And they still called themselves industrialised countries!
Thailand is of course still a developing country. We have yet to design and develop 'world brands' (at world prices) even though Thailand has already developed and exported many 'world products' (at local prices).
Low Reserve Bank rates help loan dealers to make more money (they can borrow from banks at 5-6% per year and lend out at 15++% per year (1-2% per month). So keeping people poor, make household debts high. would keep people enslaved longer. This serves who? And who will buy votes from the poor -- cheap; and who will make laws that keep this condition going...?
