• ช่วงนี้ใกล้สอบปลายภาคพอดี  บทสุดท้ายของ Foundations of English II เกี่ยวกับเรื่อง Adjective Clauses หรือ บางตำราก็ว่า Relative Clauses ก็คืออนุประโยคที่ทำหน้าที่ขยายความคำนามที่อยู่ข้างหน้ามันนั่นเอง

และพอดี๊ พอดี ไปดูหนัง นเรศวร มาแล้วส่วนตัวชอบมากๆ ถึงแม้คนที่ไปดูด้วยจะบอกน่าเบื่อแต่เราชอบเพราะรายละเอียดเยอะดี เมื่อกี้เข้าเว็บไซต์ http://www.kingnaresuanmovie.com/  เห็น adjective clause พอดี

"The king who dared to change the destiny of a nation"

Head noun หรือคำนามหลักที่เราจะขยาย คือ The king

Which king?  We have so many great kings ....

The king +
The king dared to change the destiny of a nation.

เราแทนคำนามที่เป็นคนด้วย relative pronoun "who"

ได้เป็นวลี ข้างต้น ถ้าจะให้เต็มประโยคเติม main verb เข้าไปหน่อยนะคะ

= The king who dared to change the destiny of a nation was King Naresuan the Great.

ให้แปลจะแปลว่า "ราชาผู้กล้า พลิกชะตาแผ่นดิน"

ลองดูประโยคอื่นๆ นะคะ

 Which sentence is correct?

  A. The students who passed the exam studied hard.

   b. The students passed the exam who studied hard.

   C. The students passed the exam that studied hard.

   D. Who students studied hard passed the exam.

เรามาดูว่า คำนามหลัก ที่เราต้องการขยายความในประโยคมันตัวไหนกันแน่ 
    The students ใช่ไหมคะ  ดังนั้น Adjective Clause ควรอยู่ข้างหลังคำนามคำนั้นทันทีเลย หากเอาไปไว้ที่อื่นมันจะกลายเป็นว่าไปขยายคำนามตัวนั้นไป  ดูสิคะว่าข้อไหน adjctive clause อยู่ในตำแหน่งที่เหมาะสม

ข้อที่ตัดออกไปได้เลยคือ ข้อ D ค่ะ มาอยู่ลอยๆ แบบนี้ได้อย่างไร

ข้อ B กับ C ผิดเหมือนกันเลยค่ะ adjective clause ไปขยาย the exam เสียนี่ คนละเรื่องไปเลย

ข้อ A ถูกต้องค่ะ adjective clause  ขยายคำว่า the students

นักเรียนที่สอบผ่านนั้นได้ทบทวนบทเรียนมาอย่างหนัก

ไม่ได้แปล to study ตรงๆ ว่าเรียน  เพราะหมายถึงการทบทวนบทเรียนด้วย เช่น 

Sandy studied hard last night because she is going to take the final test this afternoon. 

เข้าไปทำแบบฝึกหัด (ของชาวบ้าน) ได้นะคะที่

decease ตัวนี้แปลว่า หยุด หรือ ตาย

สมเด็จพระนเรศวรทรงประชวรก่อนที่จะทรงเสด็จสวรรคต
