Trying to keep domestic prices reasonable for a commodity like rice is very difficult, especially with the international price so high. Actual price controls often led to unhealthy results like smuggling, speculation by holding rice off the market in the hopes the price will eventually rise or hoarding to make sure you will have enough to eat.

The government does have one powerful weapon it can use, however. It has a very large stockpile of rice. Yesterday, Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan indicated that the government would begin selling this rice at prices below the current market price.

This will increase the supply of rice in the market place and it should result in price drops for local rice. Read to find out if Mr. Mingkwan's announcement had any effect on the price of rice. Read also to find out the details of his plan. What did he say about exports?

domestic – within the country; relating to the country being talked about and not other countries ภายในประเทศ

smuggling – secretly and illegally taking good or people into or out of a country ที่ลักลอบ
speculation – attempts to make a large profit by buying and selling things, often by taking chances on what their prices will be in the future การเก็งกำไร
eventually – at some time in the future ในที่สุด ท้ายที่สุด
hoarding – getting and keeping a large amount of something กักตุน (สินค้า)
stockpile – a large collection or supply of things that may be needed คลังสินค้า

เพิ่งกลับจากอบรม TKT วันนี้เองครับผม เหมือนไปอบรมด้วย, แถมกึ่งๆ ไปเจอรุ่นพี่ๆ ที่มหา'ลัยด้วย เลยลำดับรุ่นกันใหญ่....สนุกดีล่ะ ก้อวิทยากรออกจะเก่งมากแถมเป็นรุ่นพี่อีกต่างหาก เลยโก๊ะได้ คิคิ...สบายดีนะครับผม
