บทความที่แล้วผมใส่ Latin tag ลงไปอันนึงคือ status quo เลยเกิดความคิดว่าที่จริง Latin tag ที่ใช้ๆกัน มีหลายอันมีความหมายที่น่าสนใจ ลองรวบรวมมาดูนะครับ

I came, I saw, I conquered: The best known Latin sentence of them all. freely rendered as " a piece of cake" and uttered by Julius Caesar after his victory in 47 BC over Phaenaces, King of Pontus เป้นวลีเลื่องลือชื่อเสียงโด่งดัง เอาไว้พูดเวลาทำอะไรเสร็จสิ้นลุล่วง ฟังดูสง่าดี "ข้ามา ข้าเห็น ข้าพิชิต"
qui me amat, amat et canem meam
love me, love my dog: The Latin words for telling the world that it will have to take you as you are. The literal translation is "Who loves me loves my dog as well" ประโยคนี้น่าสนใจ หลายคนคิดว่าเป็นเรื่องรักๆใคร่ๆ แต่จริงๆเป็นการบอกว่า ตัวตนของเรานั้นเป็นองค์รวม และประกอบด้วยนิสัยใจคออะไรหลายๆอย่าง จะมาเลือกคบเฉพาะเป็นส่วนๆนั้น อาจจะมีปัญหาทีหลัง เพราะของมันมาเป็น package

something given in return for something: Literally "something for something" เช่นในประโยค "I will not give up that privilege without a quid pro quo ภาไทยอาจจะแปลว่า "ยื่นหมูยื่นแมว" ทำนองนั้น

ad hoc
for this (purpose): An ad hoc commitee is a temporary committee established to accomplish a particular task. Once an ad hoc committee has completed the job for which it was established. it is disbanded. แปลว่า ตั้งมา เฉพาะกิจ จะเป็นคณะกรรมการ หรือเชิญใครมา ถ้ามาแบบ ad hoc ก็แสดงว่ามาเฉพาะการนั้นๆ พอเสร็จเป้าหมายก็จะเลิกใช้
ad infinitum
without limit: Abbreviated ad in. and ad infin., this phrase is the Latin equivalent of "forever, to infinity, endlessly". ตลอดกาลนาน
ad nauseam
to the point of (causing) nausea: Anything unpleasurable that appears to go on endlessly may be said to be preceeding ad nauseam, ;literally "to seasickness". The clear meaning of this phrase is that such activity has reached the point at which it is almost more than a body can bear. อันนี้แปลเอาดื้อๆก็คือ เลี่ยนจนจะอาเจียนอยู่แล้ว ใช้กับกิจกรรมที่น่าเบื่อสุดๆหลายอย่าง คนทั่วไปอาจจะเป็นดูกีฬา หรือฟังเพลง นักเรียนก็อาจจะใช้บรรยาย lecture ที่กำลังฟังอยู่ เป็นต้น

conversely: A phrase we all know in English. the Latin words translate literally as "the change being turned". ในทำนองกลับกัน

intrinsically: Literally "by or in itself" โดยตัวมันเอง
ได้คำศัพท์เพิ่มอีกหลายคำเลยค่ะอาจารย์ ปรกติจะใช้ (แบบไม่รู้ด้วยซ้ำว่าเป็นลาติน) อยู่แค่ status quo, vice versa, per se, quid pro quo แล้วก็ ad hoc
ชอบ qui docet discit ตามความหมายของคำเหมือนกันค่ะ แต่คงไม่กล้าใช้เพราะออกเสียงไม่ถูกค่ะ ; )
รู้สึกในภาษาอังกฤษ นอกจากกลุ่มพระแล้ว ก็อาจจะมีพวกหมอกับนักกฏหมายที่จะใช้กันเยอะพอสมควร แต่ของการแพทย์ก็จะไม่ค่อยทะลักออกมานอกวงการเท่าไรครับ
เช่น

about: This scholar's term abbreviated c. or ca. indicates uncertainty about a date. เรามักจะเจอในแผนที่เก่าๆ แผนที่โลกโบราณ แปลว่า "ราวๆ" หรือ "ประมาณๆ"
