เมื่อวันที่ 16 พฤษภาคม 2561 Centre for Science and Technology Studies หรือ Centrum voor Wetenschap en Technologische Studies (CWTS) แห่ง Leiden University, The Netherlands ได้ประกาศผลการจัดอันดับสมรรถนะทางด้านผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ของสถาบันอุดมศึกษาทั่วโลก ประจำปี ค.ศ. 2018 ที่เรียกว่า CWTS Leiden Ranking 2018 ที่ http://www.leidenranking.com/
ในการจัดอันดับครั้งนี้ มีมหาวิทยาลัย/สถาบันชั้นนำของโลกได้รับการจัดอันดับเกือบ 1,000 แห่ง ใน 3 ประเภท คือ 1) ตามจำนวนผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ ในช่วงปี ค.ศ. 2013-2016 (P) 2) ตามจำนวนผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ในวารสารวิจัยระดับ Top 10% [P(top)10%)] และ 3) ตามร้อยละของผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ของมหาวิทยาลัย/สถาบันที่อยู่ในวารสารระดับ Top 10% [PP(top10%)] ในกลุ่มสาขา Biomedical and Heath Sciences, Life and Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Computer Science, Physical Sciences and Engineering และ Social Sciences and Humanities รวมทั้งทุกกลุ่มสาขาดังกล่าวรวมกัน (All Fields) ที่เรียกว่า “All Sciences” ปรากฏผลอันดับโลกและค่าตัวชี้วัดที่น่าสนใจ ดังต่อไปนี้

สำหรับข้อมูลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ที่ใช้ในการจัดอันดับสมรรถนะผลงานวิจัยของมหาวิทยาลัย/สถาบันต่างๆทั่วโลกทั้งหมดแบบ Bibliometric Methodology นี้ CWTS ได้ใช้ข้อมูลจาก Web of Science database of Clarivate Analytics, Philadelphia, PA, USA โดยไม่ได้ใช้ข้อมูลจากการสัมภาษณ์หรือออกแบบสอบถามใดๆเลย ทั้งนี้ผู้ที่สนใจ สามารถเข้าไปดูรายละเอียดได้ที่ http://www.leidenranking.com/information
