มะม่วงถูกประกาศว่าเป็นราชาของผลไม้อินเดีย เหมือนที่เมืองไทยประกาศว่ามังคุดเป็นราชินีผลไม้ของเมืองไทย

 

Mango is the king of fruit in India as same as mangosteen is the queen of fruit in Thailand.
แต่ต้องยอมรับว่าของเขามากจริง ๆ ทั้งสายพันธุ์และปริมาณ ทุก ๆ วันฉันตื่นขึ้นมาในตอนนี้เห็นแต่มะม่วงสด และยังมีน้ำมะม่วงขายอยู่ทั่วไป (ฉันยังไม่เคยลองชิมเลย แต่น้องเขาบอกว่าอร่อยดี) น้ำมะม่วงแบบน้ำผลใม้สเตอไรด์ใส่กล่องแช่เย็นขาย อันนี้อร่อยมาก 13 Rs /200 ml เกรดพรีเมี่ยม และผลิตภัณฑ์ปรุงรสแบบผงมะม่วง ไม่เว้นแม้แต่นำยาล้างจาน
มะม่วงอาจแบ่งออกเป็น 2 จำพวกกว้าง ๆ ขึ้นพวกที่ออกต้นฤดู กับปลายฤดู พวกที่ออกต้นฤดูเช่น Banaganapalli, Rasalu, Jahangir, Mansorabad ปลายฤดูเช่น Dasheri, Totapari, Neelam, Chausa และ Himayat
รสชาติมะม่วงแตกต่างกันตามพันธุ์ แต่ชนิด Totapari นี้เปรี้ยวถึงขีดสุด
วิธีการเลือกซื้อมะม่วงที่นี้สำหรับคนไทยที่ไม่รู้จักพันธ์นั้นเลือกยาก ลอง ๆ ไป แต่มีคำแนะนำจากหนังสือพิมพ์ของ SUNDAY TIME ลองใช้ดูก็ได้
1. Chose mangoes that are firm. A ripe mango will yield to slight pressure when held between your hand.
2. Make sure skin is unbroken and the colour is changing from green to yellow, orange or red.
3. A perfectly ripe mango will have an intense flowery fragrance.
4. Black speackles on the skin are characteristic of this fruit as it rippens, but too many black sport on a ripe mango, may indicated the fruit is overripen or is dammaged on flesh beneath
5. If you have bought unripe mangoes, you can speed the process of ripening by placing them in a bag with a ripe mango. But note that mangoes picked too soon will not ripen evenly even if in a bag.
6. A helpful tip when selecting mangoes no fragrant aroma usally means no flavour
