MIT OCW ย่อมาจาก Massachusetts Institute of Technology OpenCourseWare
MIT OCW เป็นระบบเปิดฟรีสำหรับนักการศึกษา, ครูอาจารย์, และผู้ที่สนใจจะศึกษาเพิ่มพูนความรู้ด้วยตัวเอง เข้ามาเรียนรู้ผ่านระบบ OER นี้ได้ (OER ย่อมาจาก open educational resource) ที่สำคัญ การเรียนรู้ด้วยวิธีนี้ สามารถศึกษาเข้าถึงจากที่ใดในโลกก็ได้
ระบบนี้จะเกิดไม่ได้เลย ถ้าไม่ได้รับการสนับสนุนและความร่วมมือจาก มูลนิธิ William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, มูลนิธิ Andrew W. Mellon Foundation , MIT, และผู้ผลิตโปรแกรม Ab Initio
ในขณะนี้ MIT OCW มี course ให้เรียนมากถึง 1,400 วิชา (ข้อมูล ณ วัีนที่ 1 May 2006) และระบบการเรียนการสอนนี้ ยังคงมีการศึกษาวิจัยถึงวิธีการนำไปใช้ การเข้าถึง และผลกระทบต่างๆ ที่ก่อให้เกิดขึ้นในระบบการศึกษาใหม่ๆ ด้วย
