ให้ความหมาย CAPABLE คือ

“having adequate capacity to do/make/receive an action” เช่น

‘Larry is a capableplayer.’

‘This problem is capableof solution.’

ความผิดพลาด ทั่วไป เกิดจาก

การใช้ “able” แทน “capable” ในความหมายหนึ่งเช่นที่กล่าวต่อไปนี้ เช่น

‘This law is capable(ไม่ใช่ able) of being enacted.’

ควรใช้ว่า ‘I am able to solve this problem.’

และ ‘I am capable of solving this problem.’

ใช้ทั้ง ABLE และ CAPABLE เพื่อกล่าวว่า “someone can do something”

ถ้า บางคน สามารถ “ทำบางสิ่ง” หมายถึง

“เขาสามารถ ทำอย่างหนึ่งอย่างใดได้”

ไม่ว่า เพราะ “เป็นไปได้” (possible) หรือ “มีความรู้/ชำนาญ”

“He wondered if he would be able to climb over the fence.”

“They were able to use their profits for new investments.”

ถ้าใช้ เป็น past tense หมายถึง “บางคนได้ทำสิ่งนั้นแล้วจริง”

การใช้ CAPABLE

ถ้า บางคน สามารถ “ทำบางสิ่ง” หมายถึง

“they have the knowledge and skill to do it.” เช่น

“The workers are perfectly capable of running the organization themselves.’

สามารถ กล่าวว่า “someone is capable of a particular feeling or action.” เช่น

“He's capable ofloyalty.”

“I don't believe he's capable of murder.”

และยังสามารถใช้ “capable of”

เมื่อกล่าวเกี่ยวกับ “what something such as a car or machine can do.”

เช่น “The car was capable of 110 miles per hour.”

เมื่อต้องเลือกใช้ 'able' หรือ 'capable'

ถ้ากล่าวว่า “someone as able หรือ capable

หมายถึง “they do things well.” เช่น

“He's certainly a capable gardener.”

“Naomi was a hard-working and able student.”
