อธิบาย ความหมาย BAR และ PUB
ใน US English เรียก BAR หมายถึง
“สถานที่หนึ่ง ที่สามารถซื้อ และดื่ม “alcoholic drinks” เช่น
‘Leaving Rita in a bar, I made for the town library.’
ใน British English เรียก สถานที่เช่นนี้ว่า PUB เช่น
‘We used to go drinking in a pub called the Soldier’s Arms.’
ใน British English เรียก BARS ว่าคือ ‘the rooms in a pub’ ที่ผู้คนดื่มเครื่องดื่ม
เรียก ‘a place where you can buy and drink alcoholic drinks’ ว่า BAR ด้วย
เช่น “…. The terrace bar of the Continental Hotel.”
ใน British English ให้ความหมาย PUB คือ
“a building where people meet friends and have drinks”
โดยเฉพาะ alcoholic drinks และ บางครั้ง อาหาร เช่น
“John was in the pub last night and he bought me a drink.’
สถาน ที่เช่นนี้ ภาษาทางการ เรียกว่า “a public house” เช่น
‘The Green Man is often seen as a name or sign on public houses.’
ใน US English เรียก “a place where you can buy and drink alcoholic drinks
ว่า “A BAR” เช่น
‘After work they went to a bar downtown.’
ใน British English บางครั้ง ใช้ BAR โดยเฉพาะ เพื่ออ้างถึง
“a place serving alcoholic drinks” ตั้งอยู่ ในส่วนหนึ่ง “ของอาคารขนาดใหญ่”
หรือ สถานที่ แสดงชื่อชัดเจนว่า เป็น “wine bar” หรือ “cocktail bar” เช่น
“I’ll meet you in the hotel bar in 20 minutes.’
