ให้ความหมาย กริยา “debar” ว่าคือ
“to shut out” = ไม่ให้เข้า หรือ
“exclude” = ไม่รวมอยู่ เช่น
‘The doorman will debar all who are not members.’
หรือ “to hinder/prohibit” = ขัดขวาง/ห้าม เช่น
‘Debar all candidates below the age of eighteen.’
ส่วน กริยา “disbar” มีความหมายคล้ายกันมาก
หากแต่ มีการใช้โดยเฉพาะ ด้านกฎหมาย ในนัยว่า
“to expel” = “การขับออก” เช่น
‘The legal society decided to disbar both attorneys for their conduct at the trial.’
