 ให้คำอธิบายว่า

สามารถใช้ทั้ง  able และ capable เพื่อกล่าวว่า  “บางคนสามารถ ทำ บางสิ่ง ได้”

ถ้าบางคน “is able” ที่จะทำบางสิ่ง หมายถึง

“พวกเขา สามารถทำ สิ่งนั้น” เพราะ พวกเขา

“มีความรู้ หรือ ความชำนาญ” หรือ “เพราะว่า เป็นไปได้”

‘He wondered if he would be able to climb over the fence.’

‘They were able to use their profits for new investments.’

ถ้าใช้เป็น ‘past tense’ หมายถึง “บางคน ได้ทำ บางสิ่งแล้ว แท้จริง”

‘We were able to reduce costs.’

ถ้า บางคน ‘is capable’ ที่จะทำบางสิ่ง หมายถึง

“พวกเขา มีความรู้และความชำนาญ” ที่จะทำสิ่งนั้น

‘The workers are perfectly capable of running the organization themselves.’

ถ้าจะบอกว่า “บางคนมีตวาม ‘able’ หรือ ‘capable’” หมายถึง

“คุณบอกว่า ‘พวกเขาสามารถทำได้อย่างดี’”
