การใช้ภาษาอังกฤษ ที่ถือว่าถูกต้องในที่นี้ อ้างอิงตามมาตรฐานของภาษา

Hither & thither คำเก่าส่วนมากใช้ในงานวรรณคดี

Hither ภาษาโบราณที่ไม่ค่อยมีการใช้ แทนที่ส่วนใหญ่ด้วย here

เป็นการใช้ที่ถูกต้องว่า ‘Come hither’ และ ‘the hither side of the stream.’

หมายถึง ‘มาที่นี่’ และ ‘ด้านที่ใกล้กว่า’ ตามลำดับ

Adj. = On the hither side of the service road.

Thither คำโบราณเช่นกัน หมายถึง ในทิศทางนั้น – ที่นั่น – ไปทางที่นั้น เช่น

I‘ll meet you on the thither side.

Adv. No trickery had been necessary to attract him thither.

มีการใช้วลี ‘Hither and thither’ ในความหมาย ‘Hither and yon’

หมายถึง ‘from here to over there’

และ ‘hither and thither’ หมายถึง ‘ here and there'

HIV Virus

HIV คำย่อจาก ‘Human immunodeficiency virus’ จึงไม่ต้องต่อท้ายให้ซ้ำซ้อนอีก

เป็นชื่อของ organism (= สิ่งมีชีวิต) ที่เป็นต้นเหตุของโรค AIDS ไม่ใช่ชื่อของโรคเอง

บุคคลอาจมีผลเลือดเป็น HIV-positive (การทดสอบที่แสดงว่าบุคคลได้รับ virus นั้น)

HIV เป็น เหตุ ส่วน AIDS เป็นผล

Hoard & horde ออกเสียงคล้าย และความหมายพ้องบางส่วน จึงทำให้สับสนได้บ้าง

Hoard นาม เก็บซ่อนเงินหรือของมีค่า

He came back to rescue his little hoard of gold.

และ กริยา เก็บหรือรวบรวมบางสิ่งไว้จำนวนมาก

She hoarded a small fortune.

Horde เป็นคำแสดงการดูหมิ่น หรือกล่าวหา หมายถึง กลุ่มใหญ่ของ คน สัตว์หรือแมลง

Hordes of fans descended on the stage.

There are always hordes of tourists here in the summer.

Football fans turned up in hordes.
