เมื่อวันที่ 21 พฤษภาคม 2558 Centre for Science and Technology Studies แห่งประเทศเนเธอร์แลนด์ ที่มีชื่อเป็นภาษาดัทช์ว่า Centrum voor Wetenschap-en Technologie Studies (CWTS) ได้ประกาศผล CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 ซึ่งเป็นการจัดอันดับมหาวิทยาลัยโลก 750 อันดับที่มีผลงานวิจัยคุณภาพดีตีพิมพ์อยู่ใน วารสารชั้นนำที่อยู่ในฐานข้อมูล ISI Web of Science, Web of Knowledge (Science Citation Index Expanded, Social Science Citation Index and Arts & Humanities Citation Index databases) ของสำนัก Thomson Reuters โดยมหาวิทยาลัยที่ได้รับการจัดอันดับ 1-10 ของโลกโดยรวมของกลุ่มสาขา All sciences ได้แก่ 1) Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) 2) Harvard University 3) Stanford University 4) University of California, Berkeley 5) Princeton University 6) California Institute of Technology (Caltech) 7) University of California, Santa Barbara, 8) University of California, San Francisco 9) Rice University 10) Weizmann Institute of Science
การจัดอันดับ CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 เน้นในเรื่องของคุณภาพผลงานวิจัยตีพิมพ์ที่พิจารณาจาก สัดส่วน หรือร้อยละของผลงานที่แต่ละมหาวิทยาลัยมีปรากฏอยู่ในวารสารที่มีการอ้างอิงมากที่สุด ในระดับ Top 1%, Top 10% และ Top 50% ทั้งนี้ระดับที่มีการประชาสัมพันธ์มากที่สุด ก็คือระดับ Top 10% ของวารสาร ชั้นนำของโลก (ที่ CWTS ถือว่าเป็น “crown indicator”) ในแต่ละกลุ่มสาขาการวิจัย ดังตัวอย่างข่าวต่อไปนี้

ประเทศในภูมิภาคอาเซียน (ASEAN) มีเพียง 3 ประเทศที่มีมหาวิทยาลัยได้รับการจัดอันดับใน CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 ได้แก่ประเทศสิงคโปร์ 2 แห่ง ประเทศมาเลเซีย 5 แห่ง และประเทศไทย 3 แห่ง โดย World Rank (WR) และ Asia Rank ของมหาวิทยาลัยดังกล่าว เมื่อดูจากเกณฑ์สัดส่วนของจำนวนผลงานตีพิมพ์ที่ปรากฏ ใน Top 10% ในกรณีของกลุ่มสาขา All sciences เป็นดังต่อไปนี้

นอกเหนือจาก field หรือกลุ่มสาขาทางด้าน All Sciences แล้ว CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 ยังจัดอันดับมหาวิทยาลัยใน field ต่อไปนี้คือ Biomedical and health sciences; Life sciences and earth sciences; Mathematics and computer science; Physical science and engineering; Social sciences and humanities ทั้งนี้ อันดับโลก (WR) และอันดับเอเชีย (AR) ของมหาวิทยาลัยในภูมิภาคอาเซียน ใน field ดังกล่าวนี้ สามารถดูได้ในไฟล์ที่แนบ คือ CWTS-LeidenRanking-2015_ASEAN.pdf
อนึ่ง คณะผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่ทำหน้าที่ติดตามตรวจสอบการจัดอันดับของสำนักต่างๆคือ International Ranking Expert Group (iREG) ได้เสนอข่าวในลักษณะที่ให้น้ำหนักความถูกต้อง ความโปร่งใส และความเชื่อถือได้ในระดับสูงกับ CWTS Leiden Ranking 2015 ดังที่ปรากฏที่ Web Link :http://ireg-observatory.org/en/index.php/285-leiden-ranking-2015
