Distinguished guests, colleagues from across the globe, and dear friends,
My heart is full as I stand before you today. Looking across this room, I see more than just academics and policymakers; I see the architects of a healthier, more equitable world. We are gathered here for a truly special occasion—a moment to celebrate the legacies and efforts of countless people over the decades, and to chart a course for the future for our current and future generations.
Twenty-five years ago, the International Health Policy Program (IHPP) Foundation was born from a simple belief: that health policies should be rooted in evidence.
The Foundation set out to be a "bridge," a trusted institution for Health Policy and Systems Research, connecting the sphere of academic knowledge to the world of policy and decision-making.
As we reflected moments ago during the tribute to Dr. Prawase Wasi, our journey has always been guided by the "Triangle that Moves the Mountain"— the synergy of knowledge, social movement, and political will.
Today’s program is designed to mirror that journey.
Today we not only look back and reflect, we also look ahead at a rapidly changing world.
From the climate crisis and shifting demographics to the rapid evolution of technology, the challenges we face are not isolated; they are systemic. In these times of uncertainty, our policies must be anchored in reliable, system wide evidence.
We will dive into Sustainable Capacity, underscoring that real power lies in people, networks, and environments. We will also hear the stories from stakeholders who have helped shape evidence-informed policies, turning concepts into tangible realities that improve the wellbeing of societies.
We have researchers, policymakers, practitioners, upcoming academics and students, sharing their insights and fostering collaboration towards more resilient, equitable, and sustainable health systems.
Most importantly, we look towards the future, with the exciting formal launch of the PMAC Strategic Institute. A platform for year-round policy engagement and innovation - a continuous movement of action, and a trusted space for resource and knowledge sharing, and capacity building that is enduring.
I ask you to hold onto one thought today: "Take pride in how far you have come, but have faith in how far you can go."
Thank you for being part of our journey thus far. Let us celebrate the wisdom we have gathered and the future we can build together.
