ก. เมื่อใช้เป็น “direct commands” ถ้า “เน้น”
ต้องตามด้วย เครื่องหมาย “exclamation” เช่น
‘Stop, thief!
‘Put your hands up!’
‘Stop talking!”
เมื่อใช้เป็น “direct commands” โดยกล่าว เรียบๆเชิงสนทนา
ใช้เพียง “full stop” (period) ก็เพียงพอ เช่น
‘Just wait there a moment and I’ll be with you.’
‘Tell me your story once again.’
ข. เมื่อใช้เป็น “reported commands” (indirect commands)
ไม่จำเป็นเลย ที่จะใช้เครื่องหมาย “อัศเจรีย์” ลงท้าย
เพราะเหตุว่า “เป็นคำรายงาน” จึงถือเป็นเพียง “ข้อความ” เช่น
‘He ordered the thief to stop.’
‘She told him to put his hands up.’
‘The teacher yelled at the class to stop talking.’
