A Brief History

According to the Chinese beliefs, the Ancestral God and Goddess are known as the creators of humans which also known as the great-grandparents of the Chinese descendants of Phitsanulok. More than a hundred years ago, some Chinese fled from the mainland China to seek asylum in the Kingdom of Thailand.

The origin of the statues was told by a Chinese community leader that a piece of wooden sculpture shaped like a deity had been washed ashore on the Nan River bank. Later, it was brought onto the land and placed in a small shelter. After that, a half wooden-half concrete shrine was built by the committee in order to establish a place for the community spiritual centre.

In 1989, the current shrine was constructed, and there was a grand opening ceremony with 120-metre-long dragon dance performed by more than 150 acrobats. The festival held during 8-12 January of that year was celebrated by the whole community.

Then ten years later, the Chinese opera house was refurbished under the budget of 700,000 baht and was highly admired by the community.

In 2000, the board of committees agreed to build the current gold-plated statues of the great-grandparents as well as the Good Luck God for the prosperity of the community.

The celebration event was also held in order to wish the late King Bhumibol longevity and also as a blessing for the people of Phitsanulok.

Both of the great-grandparent statues are 16 inches in width, which is the auspicious number of the Lord Buddha. The statue height is 27 inches, which is the number of the star clusters in the galaxy. It is believed that the positions of those heavenly objects may bestow all the good luck and wellness of people.

The male statue was designed to the typical characteristics of the Chinese emperor, adorning the crown decorated with the 12 dragons of the zodiac. The statue sitting on the dragon throne symbolized the divine power and omniscience. On the right hand, the precious wishing jade with gemstones was held.

The goddess statue was also gorgeously embellished with the Chinese empress attire depicting 12 swans of the Chinese zodiac. On the left hand, the precious wishing jade with gemstones was held.

The Good Luck God

The Good Luck God, also called Cai-Shen, is one of the highly worshiped deities in Chinese mythology. It is believed that the God of luck can bring in wealth and prosperity to the worshipers.

Chinese descendants generally believe that worshiping the God of Good luck would bring happiness, health, and wealth to the family. In so doing, they will also be blessed with prosperity and fortune in doing personal business, serving the government, studying, getting affluent agricultural products, and being averted from disasters. Having the statue of the Good Luck God at factories or industrial sites would entice prosperity and productivity.

Known for the borderless mercy for the humankind, the Good Luck God has been worshiped by people all over the world not just the Chinese.

The statue of Good Luck God, depicting a happy nobleman, is 12 inches in height, adorned with 6 dragons symbolizing the Lord of treasury or wealth. The 3 cranes symbolize riches and freedom in the family of two parents with children. On the right hand, rested the golden stone summoning wealth and the precious wishing jade with gemstones on the left hand.
