5.Launching a Narrative Arc

To be a story and not just a group of events, a work of creative nonfiction must also have a narrative arc that carries the reader through the entire story. It's about how to set a story in motion.

The best narrative structure to use is the simplest and most direct one that will do the job,less is more. 

There are two things at once for the narrative structure. It has to give the writer the space to tell the story, and it has to meet the reader's expectations.

Fulfilling reader expectations is important: mystery novel-who did the murder, a comedy-marriage ending, a tragedy-a death ending.

There are 3 broad categories of narrative structure.

1.The linear narrative: the events follow on events to build a climax and resolution and the plot is emphasized over the character who experience it.

2.The circular narrative: the end and the beginning meet, and the story focuses on the transformation of the character during the experience of the events in it.

3.The frame narrative: the essential story is bracketed at the beginning and end by second perspective on it.

สรุป: การเขียนเพื่อเล่าเรื่องราวให้ไหลลื่นนั้น มิใช่เพียงแค่เอาเหตุการณ์ต่างๆมาเรียงต่อกัน แต่ต้องขึ้นอยู่กับชนิดของเรื่องที่เล่าด้วย และสอดคล้องกับความคาดหวังของผู้อ่าน เพื่อมิให้ผู้อ่านเกิดความขัดแย้งภายใน มีโครงสร้างเล่าเรื่องอยู่ 3 แบบคือ 1.แบบเส้นตรง คือ เรียงลำดับเรื่องราวตามปกติ 2.แบบวงกลม คือ เล่าเรื่องมาจนจุดจบกับจุดตั้งต้นของเรื่องมาพบกัน 3.แบบวางรูปแบบ คือ ตอนสำคัญของเรื่องถูกวางไว้เรียบร้อยแล้วตั้นแต่ต้นเรื่อง และจบลงด้วยอีกมุมมองที่ต่างออกไป
