End of Vassa Day (วันออกพรรษา) is here. Many monks (Bhikhkave ภิกขุหลายรูป) may be going away to stay in dry places. Many flooded wats, especially those without support of lay people (โยมอุปัฏฐาก), will be unsecured. This may invite unwanted security breaches, theft and destruction of some historical, cultural and holy artifacts. Though most artifacts are of little monetary values, they may be irreplaceable. They may be lost or destroyed forever.
How do we protect our National Treasures in time of floods?
In time of extra-ordinary hardship, some people may use wrong ways to survive. Some may be careless of side-effects.
Help for those in hardship must be available. Hope and future prospects must be restored. And in the meanwhile security must be in place to protect our National Treasures.
Neighborhood watch groups in close cooperation with local police, officials and military personnels can enhance security and protect important artifacts. Government and local authorities must recognize and also provide adequate legal and provisional supports to allow this (temporary) security groups to operate effectively.
The same security and protection should also goto schools, public buildings and all historical sites.
What can we do to help?
We can report suspicious events: like entering these places at odd time, having certain tools and equipment at these places, moving historical objects, and so on.
Please consider our own safety if we try to stop them ourselves. It is better to take pictures, note persons' and vehicles' details and registration numbers. Call the police or authorities when we can.

There are many (in)famous people who are stealing 'our' national treasures while we are looking at flood water.
Some of them even claimed to be 'our rescuers' (from military rules). But that is another blog another time.
At the moment, I ask if we can help 'keeping eyes' on our national treasures.
What are our national treasures?
Historic records, old artifacts (carved wood/stone, old window panes/doors, old cabinets, old earthen-ware, old statues, old woven fabrics, ...), old bones and fossils, ...
Many things that can tell us of our past. Anything that may help us to rebuild our future. Help in exhibition, tourists attraction, restoring and preserving cultural values, ...
National treasures add values to our way of life, our economy and our heritage to our children,
Flood water may dampen our spirits, but we will keep watch on our national treasures.
