มาจีบกันเป็นภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อฝึกภาษากันเถอะค่ะ

เปิดเทอมมาใหม่ ใกล้หน้าหนาวซะด้วย หลายคนอาจเหงาเปล่าเปลี่ยวใจ บ้างแอบชอบเพื่อนในห้อง เพื่อนในชั้นเรียน เพื่อนร่วมงาน หรือใครก็ตามที่เราเจอในชีวิตประจำวัน มาดูตัวอย่างหนุ่มน้อยคนหนึ่งปรับทุกข์กับเพื่อนว่าไปแอบชอบสาวคนหนึ่งในห้อง ไม่รู้จะทำอย่างไรดี อยากชวนออกไปเที่ยว (ask someone out) ไปปรึกษาเพื่อน เพื่อนก็บอกพาไปดูหนังแบบที่สาวๆชอบ คือ chick-flicks รับรองว่าหากเธอเป็นคนสุภาพและให้เกียรติผู้หญิง คงมีลุ้นทีเดียว

H: Hey, Vic. Can I have a moment?

V: Sure. What’s up Harry?

H: I need your advice about something. There’s a girl in my class and she’s
really nice. I really like to ask her out but don’t know where to start.

V: Well. How about asking her out for a movie?

H: But I don’t know what kind of movie she likes.

V: Well, most girls like comedies and chick-flicks.

H: The problem is that she’s always with her best friends and they do things together. I feel uncomfortable to ask her out in front of her friends.

V: Why don’t you try her e-mail or Facebook. You can send a personal message to her.

H: Good idea. But what if she turns me down? ปฏิเสธ

V: Come on Harry. I don’t think she will. You are a nice guy. You know, just make sure you are polite and treat her well. Everything will be alright.

H: Thanks Vic. I will give it a shot (I will try).

V: Attaboy. ให้มันได้อย่างนั้นสิ (แผลงมาจาก that's the boy)

มาดูว่าเมื่อเรารู้สึกมีคนมาจีบ เราก็บอกได้ว่า

That guy is hitting on me . He has been sending me messages and asking me out.

Hitting on someone: เป็นสำนวน ไม่ได้แปลว่า ตีกัน ทะเลาะกัน แต่แปลว่า เข้ามาจีบ if someone is ‘hitting on you’ it means that he or she is flirting with you. กำลังทอดสะพาน พยายามจะจีบนั่นเอง

แล้วเมื่อคนๆนั้นเกิดไม่ชอบเรา หรือเราเองไม่ชอบ ก็พยายามจะหลบหน้าหลบตากันไป

I’ve been avoiding that new girl at work who likes me because I don’t know what to say to her.

Lately I feel she’s been avoiding me and I can’t really figure out what I’m doing wrong

Avoiding me : If someone is "avoiding you" it means that they are trying not to see you or talk to you. If they don’t return your calls and don’t go to your favorite places because they are afraid they might see you there, then they are "avoiding you". หลบหน้าหลบตา หลบหลีก ไม่ติดต่อกลับ
