How to Write Results (First priority of a key/take home message cited as Jool's way)

  • Present your finding with clearly-use figure and tables
  • Use the past tense
  • Don't interpret your results, but add only major interpretation

How to Write Methods

  • Say how you did the work and what you used to do it
  • Be precise when describing quantities
  • Past tense
  • Show your method section to coleagues
  • Don't describe your results except critical rationale

How to Write Introduction (concised expanding idea after set 1-2 controlling idea/paragraph)

  • Describe the nature and scope of the problem/research question
  • Explain why the work including method was important
  • Review the relevant literature plus set your hypotheses (remarkable notice for grant application) e.g. if...., if not....
  • Breifly describe the experimental methods you employed and justify your choice of methods

...together with Discussion

  •  Discuss the meaning of individual results but wait until the conclusion to tie everything together (via subtitle break)
  • Say what your results mean, consistent with your hypotheses or expectation
  • Don't try to gloss over problems in your results
  • Admit the limitation of your study
  • Suggest future study and conclusion

How to Write Abstract (final thing in several times)

  • Very briefly say what you did, why you did it
  • Very briefly identify the major methods you used and measured
  • Very briefly state your major results and interpretation - no need to put p-value when wording significantly but put p-value when having a significant trend
  • Very briefly state your major conclusion
  • Keyword may not be wording in the title
