“to refer indirectly/casually” = (การพาดพิงถึงโดยอ้อม/บังเอิญ)

และตามด้วย “to” เช่น

‘The article alludes to an event now forgotten.’

‘We will allude briefly to the main points.’

แต่ถ้า “พาดพิงโดยตรง” ใช้ “refer” ที่ตามด้วย to เช่นกัน

ส่วน คำ “elude” บางครั้ง สับสน กับ “allude”

เนื่องจาก ทั้งการออกเสียงและการสะกด คล้ายกันมาก

โดย “elude” หมายถึง

“to avoid” หรือ “to escape” หรือ

“to slip away from” หรือ “to dodge” เช่น

‘He eluded the police for 13 years.’
