อธิบาย การใช้ Suffix (คำเสริมท้าย)
เพื่อทำให้เป็น Adjective ด้วย “-able” และ “-ible”
คำ คุณศัพท์ ที่ลงท้ายด้วย “-able” และ “-ible”
ซึ่งมีเสียงอ่าน คล้ายกันมาก จึงมักสะกด ผิดเสมอ
ควรระวัง และจำ ข้อสังเกตุ ต่อไปนี้
เมื่อคำนั้น ลงท้ายด้วย “–ation”
โดยทั่วไป จะต่อด้วย “–able” เช่น
“abomination” เปลี่ยนเป็น “abominable”
“irritation” เปลี่ยนเป็น “irritable”
เมื่อคำนั้น ลงท้ายด้วย “–ion”
โดยทั่วไป จะต่อด้วย “–ible” เช่น
“comprehension” เปลี่ยนเป็น “comprehensible”
“digestion” เปลี่ยนเป็น “digestible”
เมื่อคำ ลงท้ายด้วย “c” และ “g” ที่ “ออกเสียงหนัก”
ให้ ต่อท้ายด้วย “–able” เช่น
‘practicable’ (ซึ่ง “c” ออกเสียงเหมือน” k”)
‘navigable’ (เน้นเสียงหนักที่ “g”)
เมื่อคำ ลงท้ายด้วย “c” และ “g” ที่ “ออกเสียงเบา”
ให้ ต่อท้ายด้วย “–ible” เช่น
’forcible’ (“c” ออกเสียงเหมือน “s”)
‘legible’ (ซึ่ง “g” ออกเสียงเหมือน” j”)

สำหรับ กริยา ชนิด ‘first conjugation’(ต่อรวมกัน)

‘breakable’ = ‘liable to be broken’

หมายถึง “relevant to” “suitable to”

‘fashionable’ = relevant to fashion’
‘seasonable’ = ‘suitable to season’
หมายถึง “giving” หรือ “inclined to” เช่น
‘pleasurable’ = ‘giving pleasure’
‘peaceable’ = ‘inclined to peace’
หมายถึง “subject to” (ที่ต้องทำ) เช่น
‘reportable’ = ‘subject to be reported’
‘taxable’ = ‘subject to be taxed’
และ หมายถึง “due to be” (ถึงกำหนดที่ต้องทำ) เช่น
‘payable’ = ‘due to pay’
