อธิบาย การใช้ “big” “large” และ “great”

เมื่อกล่าว เกี่ยวกับ “ขนาด” (size)

สามารถใช้ นำหน้า นาม ชนิด ‘countable’ โดยที่

เพียง “great” สามารถใช้นำ ‘uncountable noun’

เมื่อใช้ ทั้งสามคำนี้ “บรรยาย เกี่ยวกับ ของสิ่งหนึ่ง”

ใช้ “big” ตามปกติ ในการสนทนา

ส่วน “large” มีความเป็น ทางการ มากกว่า

ขณะที่ใช้ “great” กับ “การเล่าเรื่อง” เพื่อแสดงว่า

“บางสิ่ง มีความน่าประทับใจมาก เนื่องจากขนาดของมัน” เช่น

‘Where is Mark?’ – ‘Over there, by that big tree.’

‘The driver swerved to avoid a large tree.’
