Allude และ Elude
Dictionary.com สะกดคำอ่าน“allude” และ “elude”
(ทั้งสอง เน้น พยางค์ หลัง lood) ว่า “uh-lood” และ “ih-lood”

ให้ความหมาย “allude” คือ
“to refer indirectly” = การพาดพิงถึงโดยอ้อม
และตามด้วย “to” เช่น
‘The article alludes to an event now forgotten.’
‘We will allude briefly to the main points.’
การ “พาดพิงโดยตรง” ใช้ “refer” ที่ตามด้วย to เช่นกัน
‘The term electronics refers to electrically-induced action.’
คำ “allude” บางครั้ง สับสน กับ “elude”
โดย “elude” หมายถึง
“to avoid” = หลีกเลี่ยง
หรือ “to escape” = หลบหนี
หรือ “to slip away from” = หลบออกจาก
หรือ “to dodge” = หลบเลี่ยง
‘He eluded the police for 13 years.’
‘The appropriate word eluded him.’
‘What you are seeing in him eludes me.’
