ปลัดพาณิชย์ออกโรงเตือนผู้ส่งออก โรงสี อย่าทำตลาดข้าวปั่นป่วนจนราคาตก ขู่หากไม่หยุดจะงัดมาตรการกำหนดราคาส่งออกขั้นต่ำมาใช้ เพื่อดูแลเกษตรกร ระบุสต็อกข้าวโลกลด ผลผลิตคู่แข่งน้อย ความต้องการข้าวเพิ่ม ระบายสต็อกไม่กดราคา มี 33 ราย ชิงเค้ก 1 ล้านตัน
It is very confusing especially for ‘rice growers’. We have ‘rice exporters’ trying to smack the price down (so they can buy rice cheapers). We have news of lower yields and failing crops to push domestic price up. And we have a government body issueing stern warning for ‘bad practice in trading’.
What we don’t have are ‘plain facts’ for rice growers to consider in their planning and reactions. A ‘rice board’ working for ‘rice growers’ and Thailand is much needed but sadly still missing from the scene. Why don’t we have ‘plain facts’ information channels for rice growers, primary producers and public? Channels that are free from influences of marketeeing and trading (unfairly)? Why do we allow market manipulation via the media (Internet and newspapers)? Do we have reporters recieving money from ‘abnormal sources’ (outside their professional salary and allowes)? We have seen ‘news’ written to promote commercial goods and services. Should we not look into these ‘hidden agenda’ in our information channels? (After all everyone has the right to ‘truth’ –Thou shall not lie– in all religions.)
Rice growers’ best course to follow now is the Buddhist Kalama-sutta - the best filter for information from the Net and newspapers. But surely, we don’t want rice growers to shave their heads and become ordained. We need some –in facts, a lot– to grow food and feed us.

I am keeping my radar on. It seems that with floodings in many countries and world demand (or population) rising, the trend is the world price for rice to rise.
But the demand for varieties in diet also say 'niche markets' (for red, black, wild,... odd varieties of rice) would enjoy better return for producers.
PS I am to blame fot not checking the way my blog looks -- with many html tags added in (G2K textbox - the slot we we write/type into. Help! Can g2k support team do something? Does this come from 'outsourcing hire hands?)
Within a week, we have a turn around in rice price:

A Rice Board would keep watch (and statistics) on trading events (including quantity, price, and any rice development - new techniques, new varieties, new markets,...) and inform rice growers on "matter of facts" regularly.
No! 'Rice price manipulation' is not the only game in town. Snippet below shows the same in stock market. Gold, gas, petro, rubber, cassava,... are all in play.
