Equable & equitable
Equable หมายถึง มีรูปแบบ ปราศจากการแปรผัน ไม่เปลี่ยน หรือสงบ ไม่หงุดหงิดง่าย
He was in a remarkably equable mood when he spoke to reporters last night.
The climate of Puerto Rico is equable.
Equitable หมายถึง ยุติธรรม ถูกต้อง เท่าเทียม สมเหตุสมผล
An equitable distribution of resources.
Both sides insisted that the settlement of their dispute was equitable.
Equal เป็นศัพท์ที่มีความหมายแน่นอนอย่างสมบูรณ์ = absolute meaning.
จึงไม่ควรจะต้องมีคำนำหน้า ด้วย more หรือ most เพราะไม่สามารถใช้เชิงเปรียบเทียบได้
ถ้าใช้ว่า more nearly equal หรือ more equitable จะสามารถยอมรับได้ มากกว่า
และเป็นการแสดงความหมายที่ตรงจุดมากกว่า more equal เช่น
The Governor sought a more nearly equal distribution of state funds.
Equally as การใช้ร่วมกันแบบนี้ ทำให้ equally กลายเป็นส่วนเกิน
ให้ตัด equally ทิ้งได้ในประโยคเช่น Hard work is (equally) as valuable as ability.
ให้ตัด as จากข้อคิดเห็นเช่น Equally (as) significant is one’s desire to improve his lot.
