สวัสดีค่ะ 

ขอรบกวนหน่อยนะคะ คือว่าหนูกำลังจะจบป.ตรีที่เมืองไทยค่ะ(ไม่ใช่สายวิทย์) แล้วขอครอบครัวไปเรียนเภสัชที่อเมริกาค่ะ รบกวนชี้ทางให้ทีนะคะ ว่าหนูจะต้องเริ่มจากอะไร T^T 

หากจะต้องสอบอะไรเพิ่ม หนูจะได้เตรียมความพร้อมไว้ก่อนค่ะ 


ขออภัยที่ตอนแรก ไม่ได้ให้รายละเอียด จะเล่าให้ฟังจากประสพการณ์นะครับ

ถ้าเรียนจบปริญญาตรีที่อเมริกา หรือที่ไหนก็ตาม ถ้าจะเรียนเภสัช  มีสองวิธี

๑)  เรียนปริญญาตรีสาขาใดก็ตามก็ได้  แต่ต้องเรียน Premed(Pre medicine)   Premed ไม่ใช่คณะที่จะต้องเข้าไปเรียน  แต่เป็นวิชาที่เราจะต้องเรียนภายในระยะสองปีแรกของปริญญาตรี

เป็นวิชาที่ว่ายากก็ยาก  ง่ายก็ง่ายแล้วแต่ความถนัด   วิชาที่จะต้องเรียนก็คือ biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, and physics   เรียนจนครบแล้ว  เมื่อเสร็จปีที่สอง  ต้องไปสอบ PCAT exam แล้วเอาคะแนนไปสมัครสอบเข้าเรียนคณะเภสัช

ในมหาวิทยาลัยต่างๆ  บางมหาวิทยาลัยเอาแค่สองปี  บางมหาวิทยาลัย ต้องการให้จบปริญญาตรีก่อน  เมื่อมหาวิทยาลัยรับแล้ว  จึงจะไปเรียนเภสัช PharmD เป็นเวลาอีกสี่ปี

๒)  เมื่อจบมัธยมแล้ว สมัครเข้าเรียนเภสัชโดยตรง จะใช้เวลาเรียนหกปี  สองปีแรกเรียน Premed สี่ปีหลังเรียนวิชาของคณะ  ข้อดีของการเรียนโดยตรง คือได้รับการคัดเลือกเข้าคณะเลย ตอนเรียนรักษา GPA อย่าให้ต่ำกว่า 3.25 - 3.50 แล้วแต่มหาวิยาลัย  ถ้าเกรดต่ำ ให้แก้ตัวได้หนึ่งปี ถ้ายังไม่ดี โดนไล่ออกจากคณะเลย  แล้วมาสอบใหม่กับพวกที่หนึ่ง  และจะต้องมาสอบ PCAT อีก ซึ่งถ้ารักษาเกรดดีๆ  ก็ไม่ต้องมาสอบ PCAT ให้เสียเวลา  ลูกสาวผมสองคนเลือกวิธีนี้ เพราะสั้นที่สุด ตรงที่สุด  สองปีแรกก็เรียนเหมือนมหาวิทยาลัยทั่วไป พอปีที่สาม สี่ ห้า  เรียนวิชาคณะ  ปีที่หกฝึกงาน ตามร้านขายยา  โรงพยาบาล ตามแต่หลักสูตร

พอเรียนจบหกปีได้ปริญญา PharmD ก็ยังทำงานไม่ได้  จนกว่าจะสอบผ่านใบประกอบโรคศิลป์  ถ้าสอบไม่ผ่านสามครั้ง ต้องกลับมาเรียนที่โรงเรียนใหม่ประมาณหนึ่งเทอม  แล้วจึงจะมีสิทธิสอบใหม่  พอสอบ license ได้แล้ว  ก็ต้องไปสอบ license ของแต่ละรัฐ  ส่วนมากจะมีสามส่วน  ส่วนเรื่องยาภาคทฤษฎีกับภาคปฏิบัติ  และส่วนเรื่องกฏหมายของยาแต่ละรัฐ   คนส่วนมากตกการสอบ license ของรัฐ  ต้องสอบเป็นครั้งสอง

ค่าเล่าเรียน ประมาณ $30,000 - $50,000 ต่อปี

ค่ากินอยู่หอพัก  ปีละ $10,000 

คิดในแง่แพงๆไว้ก่อน เพื่อความปลอดภัย  ปีละ 60,000 ต่อปี  ใช้เวลาหกปี  รวมแล้วก็ประมาณ $360,000 หรือ ประมาณ 10,800,000 บาทไทย

เรียนจบแล้วถ้าได้ทำงานที่อเมริกา  รายได้ประมาณ $120,000  ทำงานไม่ถึงห้าปี  ก็มีเงินจ่ายหนี้ทั้งหมด

แต่ที่เห็นๆมา พบคนไทยจบเภสัชที่เมืองไทยมา สอบไม่ผ่านใบอนุญาตสักที  เธอบอกว่าจะกลับไปเรียนปริญญาตรีเภสัชของอเมริกาใหม่  ปัญหาก็คือภาษาอังกฤษ มันมากเสียจนอ่านไม่ทัน  เธอบอกว่าวิชาเภสัชไม่มีปัญหาเลย

ที่ถามมาไม่บอกประวัติ  การเรียน  เกรดส่วนมากต้องเกิน 3.00/4.00 ภาษาอังกฤษต้องระบบอินเตอร์ เพราะชื่อยา  ฟังแล้ว ฟังอีกไม่รู้เรื่อง  

ต้องรู้เขารู้เรา  ถึงจะรบชนะ  เงินที่จะต้องลงทุนก็มากพอสมควร  มาขอทุนสำหรับนักเรียนต่างชาติก็เกือบจะไม่มี

ถ้าเรียนแล้วต้องมองเห็นแสงสว่างที่ปลายทาง  ถ้ามองไม่เห็นเลยก็น่าจะต้องคิดดูก่อน 

ถ้าเงินไม่เป็นปัญหา  ก็ลองดูเลยครับ

สำหรับในกรณีของคุณ  จบปริญญาตรีมาแล้ว แต่ไม่มี Premed ลองสมัครเข้าเรียนโดยตรงหกสูตรหกปี ที่

I am also an international student, currently pursuing a pharmD at Saint Louis College of Pharmacy. There are not a lot of international students here, but they do accept F-1 students. Usually students get in fresh from high school, but you could also transfer in. (in that case, you would become a 3rd year-it's a 6 year program) I believe we accept more transfers these days compared to a couple years ago.

I am an international student doing my pharmd at Nova southeastern University. We have a program at Nova which is only for the international students who are pharmacists in their respective countries.The other school which have a similar program to us is Western University.Also USN accepts international students.My Undergrad GPA back in India was of 3.97 and a CBT Toefl of 280/300.

most of private schools take in int'l students...such as USC, USN, Western, Nova, Saint Louis College of Pharmacy

To all int'l students


One more thing I should remind you that:

CA public schools nicely deny to int's students ( they don't say on the application, but they do send you the rejection letters, after requiring a lots of things.)

USC requires bank statement of $70,000 before they look at your file.
UOP, Western require my transcript from university in VN ( which is ridiculous, and cost me a lot of money).
Loma Linda just sent me a rejection letter on Feb 20

CA private schools do take us in..but they are double expensive than other state schools. The average tuition of USC, UOP, Western, Loma Linda is 45000/year + 17000 room & board = 65000/ year...

Compare to other state: tuition is about 25000- 30000 + 12000 room board = 45000/ year...

Also, you can have more chance to get a H1B working as a pharmacist in other states...

My plan is going to Ohio State, and get a H1B from there....Eventhough I am accepted to Temple U and USN in nevada, 2 interviews from florida schools, 1 from Wingate U....

3 years ago, before applying to Pharmschools, I applied to nursing school in CA ( private + public). When I called and asked why I was rejected, they replied " We put you on the waitlist, because we have to favor permanent residents eventhough they 're not as good as you. But we can't do something else, limited budget..." 

I know that's suck 'cuz at that time, my GPA is 3.89, A's in reprequisite course, a few B's in ESL, toefl is 247, 1 year of volunteering in Oncology at CHOC, and 3 very good recommendation...

I know I made a very big mistake 'cuz I did want to try other states....
3 years later, I apply to 20+ pharmacy schools...flew around 7 times for interviews, and I'll believe I get in at least 3 schools....( Cost me >5000$)

Rejection from nursing school is a big motivation for my revenge, 'cuz it is a big shame to me, while my dad is a GI surgeon and mom is DDS, and I couldn't get into a nursing schools

My advise is " put yourself in correct places, proudly, capably and financially"


Anything is possible!!

First of all in my opinion all international students can get into pharmacy schools.
I got acceptance letters from Texas tech, mercer university, UH and possibly UT Austin (withdrew interview).
Got interviews at incarnate word and OU.

My pcat was 84% gpa 3.81(cummulative BS in CS).
Did volunteer work for the sake of it. Shadowed a pharmacist for 30 approximately hrs(exaggerated).

The point is guys, it is harder for international students but if you are determined, if you prepare well for the interview, send thank you notes, you will get in. So please lets stop this B.S. which totally drove me into depression when I applied to pharmacy schools and be optimistic and hard working.
