6.Cliffhangers and Page Turners

The secret to write satisfying chapters is the same as the secret to writing satisfying books: strong narrative arcs.

A good chapter begins with a sense of character and conflict and ends by giving the reader a reason to read on.

This reason may be a cliffhanger-something withheld or interrupted-or a power emotional moment.

Many of the same rules that apply to the narrative arcs of books also apply to the narrative arcs of individual chapters.

To write great chapters, we now need to deepen the way we think about structure and what writers call pacing.
