A theory is not a merely guess, it is fact-based framework for describing a phenomenon.

In layman’s terms, if something is said to be “just a theory,” it usually means that it is a mere guess, or is unproved. It might even lack credibility.  It is often used in everyday language to mean a guess, hunch or supposition.  You may even hear people dismiss certain information because it is "only a theory." A theory is not a merely guess, it is fact-based framework for describing a phenomenon.  In scientific terms, a theory implies that something has been proven and is generally accepted as being true. And in psychology, theory is used to provide a model to understand human thought, emotions and behaviors.

It is important to know the different definitions of theory in research and study.  Theory is defined in many ways such as: a systematic description of a phenomenon from observed reality; a group of structure or concepts, systematic related to deifnition and proposition to explain or predict any phenomenon; and is several times of a testing or verified hypothesis enable to correctly predict general events related to the phenomenon and being accepted by other people and causes of hyphothesis.

Theories are being passed from generation to generation, giving knowledge and guidance in our daily lives and most of us are not aware of the presence of theories.  For my further study I'm sure I'll be encountering different theories that might be useful for me that's why I think it is important to know the right definitions of theory.
