A California man said his Toyota accelerated uncontrollably to over 150 kmh before a highway patrol officer helped him stop the car.

 

ชายชาวแคลิฟอร์เนียแจ้งว่า รถโตโยต้าของเราเร่งความเร็วเองอย่างควบคุมไม่ได้ถึง 150 กิโลเมตรต่อช.ม. ก่ิอนที่ตำรวจทางหลวงจะมาช่วยหยุดรถ

James Sikes, 61, was overtaking another vehicle on a highway in San Diego yesterday when he suddenly realised that he could not control his car.

เจมส์เล่าว่า เขากำลังจะแซงรถอีกคันบนทางหลวงในซานดิเอโกเมื่อวาน จู่ๆก็รู้สึกว่าไม่สามารถควบคุมรถได้

“I pushed the gas pedal to pass a car and it did something kind of funny ... it jumped and it just stuck there,” Mr Skies said, adding that he could smell the brakes burning because he was pressing the pedal so hard as the car sped out of control.

The car reached 151 kmh during the 20 minutes before a California Highway Patrol officer helped get the Prius driver to slow down and turn off the engine.

Using a loudspeaker as the cars sped down the freeway, police officers told Mr Sikes to push the brake pedal to the floor and apply the emergency brake at the same time.

Police then pulled in front of the car as it decelerated and rolled to a stop. They put the rear bumper of their squad car against the front of the Prius to make sure it would not move any further.

แล้วตำรวจก็ช่วยชะลอความเร็วโดยการนำรถตำรวจไปดันไว้ข้่างหน้าจนรถหยุด จากรูปจะเห็นได้ว่าจอดชิดกันชนชนกันเลยทีเดียว

In recent months Toyota has recalled nearly nine million vehicles worldwide because of acceleration problems in many models and braking issues in the Prius.

เมื่อเร็วๆนี้โตโยต้าได้เรียกคืนรถกว่าเก้าล้านคันทั่วโลกเนื่องจากปัญหาเรื่องคันเร่งในหลายๆ รุ่นและปัญหาเกี่ยวกับเบรกของรุ่น Prius

Toyota owners have complained of their vehicles speeding out of control despite efforts to slow down, sometimes resulting in deadly crashes.

The US Government has received allegations of 34 deaths linked to sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles since 2000.
