Experiential Learning

ด้วยความที่ต้องเขียนบทความส่งอาจารย์ประจำภาควิชาภาษาอังกฤษ เกี่ยวกับเรื่อง Experiential Learning หรือ การเรียนรู้ด้วยประสบการณ์จริง ทำให้ได้ศึกษาข้อมูลและเห็นแง่คิดที่น่าสนใจหลายอย่างเกี่ยวกับข้อดีของการเรียนรู้ด้วยวิธีนี้และคิดว่าน่าจะเหมาะกับเด็กไทยในยุคปัจจุบันที่ไม่ควรเคร่งเครียดกับการอ่านตำราหรือการเรียนกวดวิชาเพียงอย่างเดียวแต่ควรให้ความสำคัญกับการเรียนรู้ผ่านเรื่องรอบตัว ไม่ว่าจะเป็นกิจวัตรกิจกรรมประจำวัน การรับผิดชอบหน้าที่และบทบาทของตนเองให้ดี เช่นหน้าที่นักเรียน, พี่ของน้อง, ลูกของคุณพ่อคุณแม่, เพื่อนที่น่ารัก, ประธานห้อง, ประธานชมรม หรือการเป็นสมาชิกที่ดีในสังคมหากเด็กได้รับการปลูกฝังเรื่องนี้ควบคู่กับการสร้างแรงจูงใจที่เหมาะสมและได้รับการส่งเสริมพัฒนาศักยภาพอย่างต่อเนื่องแล้วเชื่อมั่นว่าสังคมไทยของเราคงจะได้เห็นผลงานดีๆ จากเด็กเก่งและดี มีข่าวดีๆของเด็กไทยออกมาลบบาดแผลทางใจที่ต้องเห็นข่าวเด็กตีกัน ฆ่ากันหรือทำแท้งที่นับวันจะมีมากยิ่งขึ้น

วันนี้ขอนำบทความตอนแรกมาแบ่งปันกันค่ะ อาจจะเป็นเพียงความเห็นส่วนตัวเล็กๆน้อยๆ ตัวของผู้เขียน ไม่มีหลักวิชาการอะไรมากมายแต่ก็น่าจะเป็นประโยชน์อีกมุมมองหนึ่งสำหรับผู้ที่สนใจเรื่อง Experiential Learning.......

Experiential Learning Enhances Learners’ Success

Education stands as the most important factor in any society. Its system directs social movement and its proficiency shapes personnel quality. That’s why most people in the society have been trying to accomplish the best education. Educators and teachers have been trying to develop the best educational programs. They initiate several techniques to enhance learners’ success.

Aristotle once said, “The things we have to learn before we do them, we learn by doing them”. Educators used this philosophy with ‘Experiential Learning’. It is one of the most effective ways of learning. There are 3 main reasons why experiential learning is beneficial in education; it naturally motivate people to learn, creates opportunities for life changing behaviors, and engages self-initiative and self evaluation.

First, experiential learning helps people effectively learn about their interests, thus they will naturally motivate themselves to learn. To support this idea I would like to refer to the world’s greatest scientist, Albert Einstein who once said ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge’. That’s where all of his theories were discovered in his imagination, they were his interests. ‘Photoelectric Effect’ which earned him the Noble Prize in 1921, was a result of his interest in the features of light, this interest motivated him to imagine, search data, and do experiments. His discovery became the world’s best physics theory. Another supporting point is my own experience, once I was the president of Agricultural Club in high school. I was responsible for arranging activities for the club, raising a budget, and allocating our profits. At that time, I did not have a lot of knowledge of these duties but I was motivated to do my duties. I learned to organize a club schedule, I consulted with my advisors, and I solved problems. My interest in being the club’s president pushed me to do my best and I did it well. These duties enhanced my patience, conscientiousness, diplomacy, and open-mindedness. As a result, at my high school graduation I was awarded ‘The Outstanding Student of The Year’. So, interest contributes to learning and self motivation which will eventually bring learners success..............(To be continued)
