Farewell to Heath Ledger: ลาก่อนคาวบอยออสซี่

ช่างเป็นต้นปีที่มีแต่ข่าวเศร้า คราวนี้ถึงคราวของดาราฮอลลีวูดหนุ่มหล่ออนาคตไกล Heath Ledgerเป็นดาราคนหนึ่งที่ดิฉันชื่นชอบโดยเฉพาะจากเรื่องที่เขาแสดงนำ
A Knight’s Tale และจากเรื่องคาวบอยเกย์ที่โด่งดังอย่าง Brokeblack Mountainมาดูข่าวจาก CNN กันว่ามีคำศัพท์อะไรน่ารู้ เราอาจมีโอกาสได้ใช้กันในชีวิตประจำวันได้บ้างค่ะ

-- Actor Heath Ledger was found deadTuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said.

Heath Ledgerถูกพบว่าเสียชีวิตอยู่ในอพารต์เมนท์ สาเหตุการตายน่าจะเนื่องมาจากการใช้ยาเกินขนาด

was found dead  จำ passive voice ได้ใช่ไหมคะ หมายถึงประธานของประโยคถูกกระทำการบางอย่าง โดนทำอะไรบางอย่าง เราก็ใช้  Verb to be + V3  (กริยาช่องสาม) + Adjective

ใช้ในเหตุการณ์ที่เราไปเจอคนที่อยู่ในภาวะคล้ายๆกันนี้ได้เช่น

--  Marilyn was found unconscious on the bathroom floor. She might have slipped and knocked her head against the bathtub.    ถูกพบว่าหมดสติ

--  Ben was found naked and unresponsive in his car.   ถูกพบเปลือย แน่นิ่ง ไม่ตอบสนอง 

Pills were found in the vicinity ofthe bed.  พบยาเม็ดอยู่ใกล้กับเตียง

 in the vicinity of   วลีนี้ความหมายคล้ายๆ กับ near  ใกล้  / ละแวกนั้น (the state of being near in space or relationship)

--The plane crashed in the vicinity of  Lopburi. 

--Hotels in the vicinity of Naresuan University.  

No note was found and there was no indication of foul play.

ไม่พบข้อความหรือจดหมาย (ที่อาจระบุได้ว่าเป็นการฆ่าตัวตาย) ไม่พบร่องรอยการต่อสู้แต่อย่างใด  (Foul Play) อาจหมายถึงการฆาตกรรม การต่อสู้ ที่แสดงถึงการใช้ความรุนแรง อีกความหมายหนึ่งเหมือนกับการทำฟาว์ลในการเล่นกีฬา การใช้กำลังอย่างไม่เท่าเทียม เล่นไม่แฟร์ นั่นเอง

คำนี้ทำให้นึกถึงอีกคำนึง ออกเสียงเกือบคล้าย กันแต่ความหมายต่างกันลิบลับ

Foreplay  = Sexual stimulation preceding intercourse.  การเล้าโลมก่อนมีเพศสัมพันธ์ 

Condolences began pouring in from Ledger's friends and co-stars.  

เพื่อนนักแสดงอย่าง เมล กิ๊บสัน และ นิโคล คิดแมน  ที่เป็นชาวออสซี่เหมือนกัน แสดงความเสียใจต่อการตายของเลดเจอร์ เช่น

"He was just taking off and to lose his life at such a young age is a tragic loss. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family," said Mel Gibson, who played Ledger's father in "The Patriot."

Actress Nicole Kidman, a fellow Australian and close friend of Ledger's, said in a statement, "What a tragedy. My heart goes out to his family."
