หมายถึง “การกระทํา ”(deed) หรือ “สิ่งทีได้ทําแล้ว” (a thing done)
ส่วน “action”
มีความหมาย เกี่ยงเนื่อง
แต่แสดง แน่ชัดกว่า “ว่ากําลังทําบางสิง ” (doing something)
ว่า “กําลังกระทําการ” หรือ “กําลังเคลือนไหวอยู่” เช่น

ว่าทั้งสองมีความหมายคล้ายกัน
ว่า “a deed” (การกระทํา)
และ “the process of doing” (วิธีการในการทํา )
หากแต่ “act” มีความหมายนัยอืน เช่น
“a decision made by a legislative body”
(คําตัดสิน ทําโดยผู้ออกกฎหมาย)
และ นัยอื่นของ “action” คือ
“habitual or vigorous activity” (กิจกรรมทีทําได้คล่อง /ทําประจํา)
แสดงให้เห็นแนวโน้มว่า “act” อ้างถึง “การกระทํา ”
ขณะที “action” น่าจะอ้างอิง “กระบวนการทํา ”
