Same adj.

(CCD) อธิบายว่า การใช้ same ว่าต้องนำด้วย “the” เกือบทุกครั้ง หมายถึงว่า

ถ้าสองสิ่ง are the same เป็นสองสิ่งที่เหมือนกัน

‘All the streets look the same, in the fog.

Essentially, all computers are the same.

เมื่อคุณกล่าวว่า สิ่งหนึ่งเป็น the same as อีกสิ่งหนึ่ง ใช้ว่า

‘He was not the same as the other boys.

The next day was the same as the one before.

ข้อควรระวัง: อย่าใช้ prep. ใดๆ เว้นแต่ ‘as’ ตามหลัง ‘the same’

ในประโยคเช่นที่แสดงนี้ โดยอย่าใช้ว่า “He was not the same like the other boys.”

สามารถเพิ่ม นาม ระหว่าง ‘the same’ และ ‘as’ เช่น

‘She goes to the same school as her sister.’ ‘

I’m in the same type of job as you.’

สามารถใช้ ‘the same as’ เพื่อเปรียบเทียบการกระทำต่างๆ เช่น

‘She did the same as her sister did.’ หรือสั้นๆเพียง ‘She did the same as her sister.”

กริยาวิเศษณ์ (adv.) ที่บ่อยครั้งใช้ให้นำหน้า ‘the same’ เช่น

exactly; nearly; almost; practically, และ virtually. ดังนี้

‘The next time I saw him he looked exactly the same.’

‘Their policies are practically the same as those of the previous government.’

(CED) อธิบายการใช้ same ว่ามีข้อยกเว้น ให้ใช้ทั่วไปทางธุรกิจและเป็นทางการได้ ดังนี้

“If you send us your order for the materials, we will deliver same tomorrow.”

แต่ต้องหลีกเลี่ยงการใช้ทั่วไปในลักษณะนี้

โดยไม่ควรใช้ว่า ‘May I borrow your book? I’ll return it (ไม่ใช่ same) tomorrow.”


Similar adj. หมายถึง การที่ดู like บางคน/บางสิ่ง แต่ไม่ใช่อย่างเดียวกันจริงๆ

ถ้าหากสองคนหรือสองสิ่ง are similar หมายถึงว่า

แต่ละอย่างต่างมีลักษณะเด่นบางอย่างที่อีกฝ่ายก็มีด้วย เช่น

The two friends look remarkably similar.

Our ideas are basically very similar.

คุณสามารถใช้ similar นำหน้า นาม

เมื่อทำการเปรียบเทียบ บุคคล/สิ่งของ กับบางคน/สิ่งอื่น ที่ได้กล่าวถึงไปก่อนแล้ว ‘

Many of my friends have had a similar experience.

Put them in a jar, bowl, or other similar container.

กริยาวิเศษณ์ (adv.) ที่ใช้ให้นำหน้า ‘similar’ เช่น

broadly; rather; roughly; surprisingly; quite; remarkably; strikingly, และ very. ดังนี้

‘Their proposals were rather similar.’ ‘My problems are very similar to yours.’


Identical adj.

(CCD) อธิบายการใช้ identical ว่า ถ้าสองสิ่งหรือมากกว่า ‘are identical’

จะเป็นสิ่งของที่เหมือนกันในทุกๆรายละเอียด เช่น

‘Twenty or thirty suitcases with identical blue labels.’

คุณสามารถกล่าวว่า สิ่งหนึ่ง ‘is identical with’ สิ่งอื่น หรือ ‘identical to it’

หมายความว่า ไม่มีความแตกต่างในความหมาย เช่น

Chemically, it is almost identical to limestone.
