The naïve assumption that things can only get better.
I can’t believe you were so naïve as to trust him!
Near & nearly
Near เมื่อใช้เป็น adv. = come near me.
เมื่อใช้เป็น adj. = the near side of the moon.
เมื่อใช้เป็น prep. = near the house.
และ เมื่อใช้เป็น กริยา = the train nears the station.
Nearly sick with fear. A nearly perfect evening.
The person most nearly concerned.
There isn’t nearly enough time to get there now.
I was nearly sick with a cold. (not near sick)
I was sitting near (not nearly) you.
Nearly & almost
nearly midnight, nearly at his destination, nearly enough money.
One is almost afraid to do something, not nearly afraid.
ใช้ almost นำหน้ากริยาหลักในประโยค เสมอ = I almost failed the exam.
ถ้าหากกริยาหลัก คือ is/am/are/was/were ให้ใช้ almost ตามหลังทันที
I am almost as tall as my brother.
There is a pub in almost every village.
