"......Protest leaders had earlier said they accepted the plan in principle, but then began issuing more demands on a daily basis and ultimately refused to abandon their occupation.

The refusal to conclude the five-plus week occupation of the Rajaprasong commercial district appears to be the result of divisions among protest leaders, who are split between moderates and hardliners.

More than 20 people have been described as the movement's leaders, ranging from
