เรื่องแรกเป็นเรื่องพนักงานขอขึ้นเงินเดือน อ้างว่ามีบริษัทอื่นต้องการตัวอยู่ถึง 3 บริษัท
"I have to have a raise," the man said to his boss. "There are three other companies after me."
"Is that so?" asked the manager. "What other companies are after you?"
"The electric company, the telephone company, and the gas company."
have a raise ได้ขึ้นเงินเดือน
after me ตามตัว/ ติดตาม
A young fellow in the midst of cutting up in the library, was approached by the librarian.
"Please be quiet," she said, "the people around you can't read."
"They can't?" said the boy. "Then what are they doing in the library?"
cutting up = To behave in a playful, comic, or boisterous way
ประมาณว่าเจ้านี่กำลังคุยโม้โอ้อวด ทำเสียงดังในห้องสมุด พี่บรรณารักษ์เลยมาเตือนให้เบาๆ หน่อย แต่เจ้านี่กลับกวนเข้าให้
อันนี้อธิบายมากไม่ได้ ความขำเป็นความสามารถส่วนบุคคล ลองขำกันเองนะจ๊ะ
ตอบแล้วค้าบ
A young fellow in the midst of cutting up in the library, was approached by the librarian.
in the midst of + Noun เป็นวลีใช้ในความหมายว่าอยู่ในระหว่างการทำกิจกรรม หรือในภาวะบางอย่าง
เช่น in the midst of terror อยู่ในภาวะอกสั่นขวัญหาย
Thank you very much kha Aj. Malinee and Khun ttechno for visiting my blog.
I used to think that 'cutting up' means cutting something too. That's a bit tricky about English phrasal verbs, isn't it.
Cheers
