On a broader level, the occupational therapist may:

  • Arrange special events such as sports days, outings, flea markets, etc. and develop recreational programmes.
  • Establish facilities such as a sports area, tuck shop, income generating projects, etc.
  • Assist to establish support groups.
  • Develop community outreach programmes in disadvantaged areas.
  • Do disability grant assessments and reporting.
  • Analyse situations in order to plan and develop therapeutic programmes for entire populations (e.g. in homes for the aged or disabled, long-term institutions, schools, etc.).
