I read a commentary on a newspaper today and found a word interesting. Let me show you why. ;-)
สับปลับบุรุษ: สับ+ปลับ+บุรุษ?

**ปลับ --no entry in [RID Th] = not a Thai word?;
** This suggests สับปลับ is a multi-syllable word, or not a Thai word originally, so we need to look at other languages for its origin. Sanskrit and Pali are the the most likely --to look first; in this case we find sabb+palāpa (-->sappalāpa) fits very well.
Why is สับปลับ spelt with สับ- (*บ) instead of สัป- (*ป) for sappalāpa (สัปปะลาบ, --> สัปปลับ)?
So, our (re)search here is not complete. Perhaps we should ask ราชบัณฑิตฯ for help, after all. For a Sunday read, I think we have enough to muse on.
Before we would claim a contribution to etymology of Thai words here.
Why do we bother with etymology or any research to verify facts?
Well, we are developing towards knowledge society. (Aren't we?) We learn to observe and check 'truths' (as available to us). Wouldn't we prefer 'Truthful' societies to 'Deceitful' societies. If we have a culture of checking 'facts', then we have better chances of having less 'lies' in our society. Less lies means less frauds, less scams, ..., less sufferings. Isn't this a goal of life?
