ภัยธรรมชาติล่าสุดใกล้ไทย ก็คือภัยพายุไต้ฝุ่นทุเรียน ผลของการทดลองใช้ keyword " durian+storm " นั้น มีคำตอบมากเกินคาด

ความรุนแรงของพายุนี้มีความรุนแรงระดับ 4 มีความแรงของลมที่ 120mph

เหตุที่ทำให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตจำนวนมาที่ฟิลิปปินส์ก็สืบเนื่องจากดินถล่มนั่นเอง จากข่าว Yahoo พบว่า เมื่อวันที่ 1 ธันวาคม มีการคาดประมาณว่าจะมีผู้เสียชีวิตจำนวน 198 คนจากโคลนถล่ม แต่ล่าสุด วันที่ 3 ธันวาคม มีการประเมินจำนวนผู้เสียชีวิตใหม่ว่า อาจจะมีผู้เสียชีวิตมากกว่า 1,000 คนจากโศกนาฎกรรมโคลนถล่มในครั้งนี้ (อ่านเพิ่ม Yahoo New - Dec 1st , และ Dec 3rd)
รอยเตอร์เตือนภัย ทำการพยากรณ์การเดินทางของพายุทุเรียนลูกนี้ โดยมีการประเมินว่า พายุจะขึ้นฝั่งเวียตนามในวันที่ 4 ธันวาคม ด้วยความเร็วของลมที่ 97mph หรือมีความรุนแรงในระดับ 2 (category 2) ณ ความรุนแรงระดับนี้ พายุอาจก่อความเสียหายได้แก่
- คลื่นลมแรง สูงกว่า 1.8-2.4 เมตรจากระดับปกติ
- หลังคา หน้าต่าง หรือประตูอาจจะถูกพัดปลิวได้
- กิ่งไม้หัก หรือต้นไม้โค่นล้ม
- สิ่งปลูกสร้างไม่มั่นคง เช่น บ้านเคลื่อนที่ ป้ายโฆษณา หรือท่าเรือ อาจจะถูกพายุทำลายได้
- อาจจะมีน้ำท่วมบริเวณชายฝั่ง หรือพื้นที่ที่น้ำท่วมถึง
- เรือเล็กไม่สมควรออกจากฝั่ง
- และถ้ามีฝนตกหนัก ก็อาจจะก่อให้เกิดน้ำท่วมขังได้
