Dr. Prattana Srisuk, Deputy Director for International Affairs of International College, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep (IC-UTK) invited Prof. Dr. Chira Hongladarom to be the guest speaker on "Business Environment Process" to approximately 43 postgraduate students from Faculty of Economy and Business, UPS Tegal and UNIKU, Indonesia on January 19, 2018 at International College, Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep (IC-UTK), Borphit Phimuk Campus.

This subject is very broad. I want the session to be beneficial to all of you.

I have been to Indonesia many times. This project is important. Dr. Prattana Srisuk is my student so we keep cooperation together.

My job is to inspire you. After my speech, there will be workshops. Each group will have 20 minutes discuss on workshop. Learning in the future does not mean transferring knowledge.

My last visit to Indo, I worked with Dr. Prattana Srisuk as the keynote speaker in Surabaya.

Your group comes from business so we have to apply to the reality and we can have cooperation.

When companies set vision, they have to explore internal and external factors. It like pilot flying the plane has to look at the weather to take opportunity and avoid danger.

We will discuss the world and local environment.

The second session, I look at the process. Important one is process of change. The companies have to go to changes. We talk about change and leadership.

I teach Ph.D. and CEOs every day. I am highly motivated to be a part of your networking.

In the afternoon, the last session is about sustainability. We will discuss how Indo companies will take long term approach to sustainability.

This is share learning. We have to learn share and care one another. This is Chira Way.

I want to inspire you. You create more ideas and apply to local situation.

I try to make you think about the subject. I want you to enjoy learning and doing workshops.

Learning opportunity is to know how to learn from one another.

Whatever I told you, please go back to your reality of your company. Then, try to solve problems or create benefits to your country. That is the key to success.

Indonesian students perform English better because they are eager to learn. Your President tries to promote education. Indonesia has a lot of population and has most young population. Indonesia has moderate Muslims. I have many experiences with Indonesia. I want to focus to make sure that you benefit from this

Inspiration means that you want to learn. Teachers do not have to tell everything to you.

If you do workshops, do not talk only about facts, but try to have imagination of the future of Indonesian business and educational cooperation. We survive only if we work together.

If you want to study this subject, it must be practical.

The future is to empower people in the company to do well.

Inspire yourself to have feeling to learn, share and add value. The future of the world is uncertainty and tremendous benefits to all. Use imagination during your workshop.

E-commerce now controls everything. Networking and sharing ideas are the keys to success.

Imagination is starting points of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship respectively.

We do not have to use only the western concepts. You can be as smart as them. Believe in yourself.

In Indonesia, Ministry of Education is smart because the current curriculum is based on entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is to earn more income and take risk to survive. Please try to understand Bitcoin. Do not be greedy about the business.

Whatever  you do in finance, marketing, HR, technology, if you invest less, try to get more return. Generate 3V’s. Value Added is to have more knowledge after studying. Value Creation is to generate something new. It like Bill Gates started Microsoft. When you come to Thailand, you see different ways of life. From now on, Indonesia will look at the southern part of Thailand too. We used to fly from Medan to Hat Yai. Malaysians can do it.

IMT – GT Networking for business is very important and interesting. We are geographically close to each other. The logistics are not convenient. When you think about future cooperation and external factor, think about logistics too because it is important.

I want you to know Value Diversity. It is my concept. You are to generate income higher than value added. We have to understand external and internal environment.

External factors are competition; social, legal and technological changes, and the economic and political environment.

Develop digital technology. In Thailand, it moves so fast. Many jobs will be replaced by AI.

Indonesia does not have manpower shortage. Thailand will have problems of demography.

Internal factors are the conditions, entities, events, and factors within an organization.

Factors that are frequently considered part of the internal environment include the

organization's mission statement, leadership styles, and its organizational culture.

1. Leadership in the company can control everything.

2. Human resources, skill and talents in the company can come up with ideas and opportunity outside

3. Strategy should not depend on command of the boss. Now, the world is networking and sharing. The company must survive and rise.

Indonesia will be important because you use technology to suit you.

The problem of technology is that they replace people. People who do not have enough skill will be unemployed. You must have lifelong learning to learn new things.

People must understand environment. If good, you take advantage. If bad, avoid it.

You need macro and macro perspectives.

The leadership is to make sure that people understand trend in the future.

I agree with these factors. I rearrange them.

1. Human beings must be the first one. Jack ma case explains that human beings has wisdom, love and able to create things.

The most important is external factor because it affects our company. In Indonesia, entrepreneurs land projects. If we are competitor, we want to be better.

Technology is important.

Social aspect is important because it can affect politics.

Social factors in Indonesia are technology development. We can learn about the company from social media.

Indonesia needs harmony within diversity. Thailand has urban and rural conflict. Must be careful about the rich and poor, young and old people. Must pursue the good benefits of social system.

politics system-democracy is a lot of money. Source of money comes from business. It is like gambling game who will win the election.  Sometimes, laws are unfair for those who have not supported the winner.

In Thailand, people from family business get promoted than professional. The professionals must be confident and perform well.

All of them are human resource related.

We should have empathy: caring for people.

I have taught many Indonesian students. Do not be worried about English.

The subject we discuss is going to impact you when you go back.

It also helps companies in Thailand because both Thailand and Indonesia are in ASEAN.

If you come back in Thailand, please visit the south. All of them are your friends because they are Muslims and some are Buddhists.

1. Crisis management

            Crisis is good for business and family. Leaders must know how to face and overcome crisis. Crisis comes, goes and then comes back. It is called “Permanent Crisis”. Another kind is “Multiple Crisis”. It is important to think about how to deal with crisis.

 

2. Anticipate change

            Nobody can predict the future. You must try to understand the future and plan ahead. Change before it is too late. In Thailand, so many retired people planned late so they do not know how to generate income after retirement.

 

3. Motivate others to be excellent

Good boss must try to motivate people to perform. Motivation, empowerment and inspiration must have quality.

 

4. Conflict resolution

            Leaders must solve conflicts.

 

5. Explore opportunities

            Leaders must explore new opportunities.

 

6. Rhythm & Speed

            Leadership is about timing. Learn to make decision and not to make it on the right time.

            Uncertainty is different from unpredictability. We have to deal with uncertainty.

 

The key to process for change in the future is sustainability. When you go back to the company, please look at the risk involved. You should teach people in the company to be learning organization.

The future of UN is Sustainability Goals. They apply King Rama IX’s Sufficiency Economy.

In 8K’s, there is Sustainability Capital. I believe in Happiness Capital. A problem is using finance as a measurement.

Sustainable Development must;

1) Balance the short-term and the long-term benefits

2) Be environmentally friendly

3) Balance the morality, ethics and development

4) Be based on scientific thinking, analytical thinking, life-long learning

and learning society

5) Benefit the majority instead of small groups of people

Grab and Uber Projects

Long time ago, some people underestimated the project because the developing project had no need to have high education.

Last time, the project was submitted to motor bike station and they had high price.

 

Online shopping system

Some people do not feel convenient to use it.

People did not trust in online shopping. Product differed from expectation.

Limited products are on online shopping

Now, it changes, easy for teens to go on shopping.

Some people are busy can buy it.

Some people put real picture on online shopping. They get the same product as expected.

3. What do you think about applying “Leadership Style of Peter Drucker and Dr. Chira Hongladarom for business environment process” to sustainable development in business in Indonesia?

 

It is very good to apply to companies in Indonesia.

Indonesia companies have small and large scope. Small scope companies have many obstacles. They want to grow fast.

Leadership styles depend on the leaders. Both styles are very good. Every leader has their own styles.

 

Dr.Chira Hongladarom

The first group talked about success. They select the technology on Grab and Uber and online shopping. It means that change must come with technology. The one that failed in Indonesia were not good at dealing with change due to supply constraint. Peter Drucker lived in traditional business. Dr.Chira Hongladarom is in the new business. Leaders in the past went to Peter Drucker’s system. He was more like manager than leader. Dr.Chira Hongladarom looks ahead and future dealing with crisis. In ASEAN countries, you got to be Peter Drucker for traditional business because change at that time was not fast. You do not have to anticipate change. Indonesia still has 2 systems. One is with the change very fast. One is with the slow change. Thank you very much.

 

4. What do you think about applying “His Majesty the King Rama IX on Sufficiency Economy Philosophy” to sustainable development in the business in Indonesia?

What have we learnt about Sufficiency Economy are as follows.

There are some aspects like Economy, Society, environment and culture.

What should we do to make it better?

We must have good knowledge. Good learners must get up-to-date knowledge.

We must adapt to change.

Another is moral fiber.

Sufficiency Economy can be applied in Aceh, Kalimantan and Bali.

They some regulations like in Thailand.

Both Thailand and Indonesia have election system.

Supporting companies try to make the candidates win. If the candidates win, the supporting companies will get opportunities.

To apply Sufficiency Economy, we must firstly get good human beings. It is the most important thing. They must show capability to sustain the company. We must communicate the vision through orientation. We must develop our human beings with coaching, counseling and training. We must have collaboration like a good network because, in this era, we cannot work alone. In every problem, there are opportunities

Now, it is time for information technology. Then, it will change with data technology.

In Indonesia, it depends on the government and regulations.

Attitude is very important.

New product must have customers as top priority.

The last is “Yes.” We are the winner.

Both Indo and Thailand will move into the economy in the future. The economy has many problems in the future. Sufficiency Economy teaches you to be able to sustain the development. When the risk is involved, you go to moderation. If you are greedy, you take many risks. Then, the business cannot sustain knowledge, ethical standard or something like that. You have protection of the future risk. It will be very important. If you are not ready, spend more time thinking about survival before going to expansion. That is why Sufficiency Economy goes to sustainability. Thank you very much.

I was very impressed with your presentations because they showed that you had an understanding in business environment and change. You can show, share knowledge and ideas with your friends in the brainstorming in each group.

I have some suggestions that you should bring Dr. Chira’s conceptual framework about change and ecology of change. For example, his paper is about competition, social, legal, technology change, ecology and in economic and political environment. The most important is the learning process of Dr. Chira Way because you can use what you learnt in the morning and you share in your workshop about care of Indonesia’s business environment. You can bring Dr. Chira’s process in the workshop back to Indonesia as well as importance of human capital power because Dr. Chira has the great teaching in human capital in Thailand. You can work successfully in the context of change and business environment. When you go back to Indonesia, you can work on Dr. Chira’s process on learn, share and care and business environment about ecology of change. Thank you very much.

It is the first time for Khun Pitchabhuree to join the English program. She was the former Vice President for The Nation Group. She is in the multimedia field. We work together for many years because we are team teaching. The way she summarizes is that in the paper, there are many concepts of Chira Way: Learning how to learn, learn, share and care. When you go back, at least, you know that you leave this room with some concepts in mind. Thailand and Indonesia will join hand in hand working together. Tonight, all of you should think about what are 2 things you learnt from the beginning to the end of the class.
