1 ประเภทของคำบุพบท คำบุพบทแบ่งเป็นประเภทต่าง ๆ ดังนี้

6.1.1 คำบุพบทบอกสถานที่ (prepositions of place) เช่น at, on, in, etc.

ตัวอย่าง

Jane is at home.

Henry is on the ship.

The Smiths are in Italy.

6.1.2 คำบุพบทบอกตำแหน่ง (prepositions of position) เช่น above, beneath, behind, in front of, etc.

ตัวอย่าง

There is a big tree in front of Jane’s house.

Henry is hiding behind the bush.

Peter’s book is beneath Bill’s book.

6.1.3 คำบุพบทบอกการเคลื่อนไหว (prepositions of motion) เช่น through, into, towards, out of, away from, etc.

ตัวอย่าง

The train is going through the tunnel.

Peter is walking towards the monument.

Ann is driving into the parking lot.

6.1.4 คำบุพบทบอกทิศทาง (prepositions of direction) เช่น up, down, across, along, etc.

ตัวอย่าง

Susan is driving up the hill.

Peter is walking across the street.

Jane is walking along Chaeng Watthana Road.

6.1.5 คำบุพบทบอกเวลา (prepositions of time) เช่น on, in, at, by, after, before, etc.

Jane gets up at six o’clock.

I arrived before Jim.

6.1.6 คำบุพบทบอกลักษณะอาการ (prepositions of manner) เช่น in, with, without, etc.
