AITMO : Background

AITMO : ASIA INTER-CITIES TEENAGER'S MATHEMATICS OLYMPIAD

Background

In 2003, some experts in mathematics education, among them are from China, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, gathered to lauch an international mathematics contest to provide opportunities for teenagers (Junior High School students) in Asia to develop their competence in mathematics and to promote friendship among future mathematicians in Asian region.  AITMO was firstly held in August 2003 at West Lake Hotel, Fuzhou, in China.  This contest was planned to be held in turns in different countries biennially.

In 2005, AITMO was conducted in the Philippines.  

In the year 2007, it was administered in Hong Kong.  

In 2009, it was held in the Philippines; combined with the EMIC, it was named PEMIC.  

In 2011, AITMO was held in Nepal.

In 2013, the AITMO is to be held in Tangerang (one of city in Banten Provience), Indonesia, on December 26 - 30.  It is projected that there will be around 500 participants from 25 countries,  from Asia, Africa, America and Europe.
