I read in G2K about using 'เขียด' to make a toddler talk and I wondered how do Thais tell the different amphibians which are what. I looked up (see below) and see that Thais are (as have been) much more discerning about frogs and toads than English. The question is then "Do we really know which is what?" or "How do we tell the differences among them?"
Can anyone help me here? Give detailed description, habits and ... Post pictures with names, ...
This could be a start of the Thai encyclopedia on Thai Amphibians ;-)

Yesterday while growing durian tree, I saw an อึ่งอ่าง. I usualy hear เสียงกบร้อง from my big pond. When I take a bath, I am disturbed by a ปาด very often. I sometime see a เขียด at my big pond, and a คางคก somewhere in the garden. I will try to help you by posting pictures with names ok those amphibians.

I wait to see the pictures. I had tried to grow Durians for years, They just wilted and went in Winter when the temperature dropped below 5C. All frogs and toads around my place go into hiding too in the cold seasons. Happy gardening?

I wish we have little scientists out there running around taking notes, pictures, posting what they find (on G2K kids zone? ;-), ...
We will see about some sorts of encouragement systems to promote "kidz sciences". Leave it to MOE as we have done until now, we see now what MOE had done to our kids (each new generation have less IQ than the previous generations). soon, our kids will be reduced to 'zombies'.

Here are pictures of some amphabians with names in Thai I have searched through internet for you.

He grows a durian tree every year, for each went every summer. The one I have grown is the seventh with my hope of growing durian successfully..

I haven't seen the pictures yet. My Internet connection is losing out to the slowest snail in AUS (again shame, BIGPOND AUS, shame).
There is a secret 'start' button on durian trees somewhere, we haven't found and pressed yet. Where I am durian seedlings are expensive ($25+ per tree), I cannot afford them now. I go back to getting more varieties of mangoes, guavas, cassavas, chillies, that sort of things. They are much easy to grow. And they even rock (look active) in Winter.
