God, Light, and Man's Quest to See the Truth

What other light instruments will we invent and use? We have only just begun to see "light"!

God, Light, and Man's Quest to See the Truth

From (Cambridge) King James Version
"1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day."

So, Light and Darkness were there together in the Beginning until God separated them. When God saw Light, He liked it. (Man was created on land much later for what purpose only God who hovered over water would know.)

It was a light intrument (a glass telescope) in the hands of Galileo (a descendant of Man that God created) that probably started an astronomic quest (in the West) to dispute God's creation. It was again a light instrument (a microscope) that Robert Hooke used to look at microbes and cells in search for (origin of) life. It was another light instrument (an X-ray) that Rosalind Franklin illuminated the structure of DNA and set Charles Darwin's evolution in front of creation. It was an attribute (constant speed) of light that Albert Einstein included the whole universe under new Light.

The Buddha (The Awakener, ผู้ตื่น) talked about lotus flowers seeking light (from under water) and "avijja" (ignorance or ไสยศาสตร์ or Dark rites - see http://th.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%B9%84%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%A2%E0%B8%A8%E0%B8%B2%E0%B8%AA%E0%B8%95%E0%B8%A3%E0%B9%8C or วิชาเวทมนตร์ คาถา... but avijja is NOT vijja. The connection of avijja and ไสยศาสตร์ is likely through Hinduism.) Light in Buddhists' view is for seeing (awakening) and Darkness is for sleeping (ignorance). People's mind may travel from darkness (under water) toward light (above water). But, some people may never see light!

It is light that shines in buildings, streets, cinemas, televisions, CD/DVD, mobile phones, computer/tablet screens, x-ray machines, and so on. Light within our human eyes' (rainbow) range and with other frequecies below and above is used to reveal nature of life and boundless universes, to communicate and to please our eyes. What other light instruments will we invent and use? We have only just begun to see "light"!

Hi Ico48 ...ปริม pirimarj...

Thank you and a very Happy New Year to You.

The light of wisdom... ummmh, I wish I can invent that.

So when I shine the light of wisdom on myself and become wiser. When I shine the light of wisdom on something or someone else, I can see more clearly and I become wiser. Now let us see 7 billions units of the torches of wisdom, battery operated, designed and encased in bio-degradable plastic, finger gesture operating system, ...

;-) sorry, greed has just taken over my wisdom!

God, Light, and Man's Quest to See the Truth ===> Good I

God, Light, and Man's Quest to See the Truth ===> Good Idea

  • I do appreciate your final words; "It is light that shines in...everything. Light within human eyes', used to reveal nature of life and boundless universes. What other light instruments will we invent and use? We have only just begun to see "light"!

Hi Ico48 Somsri

Thanks again for bring in the whole family (to show support ;-)

You really share the fun you have -- happiness shows in the pictures. I wish one day we can be in the same pictures.

But I would look like a devil among devas ;-)

Thank you Ico48 ดร. ธวัชชัย ปิยะวัฒน์ for your kind words

Please call me "sr" or "สร", plain, without title like อาจารย์. I am not teaching but learning. I am not in "the front" but "among" listeners and learners. We can be friends or fellow-learners with respect to our 'deeds' but without 'wrapping' or 'labelling'.

We know the Buddha Gotama left the palace and all suppositions to search for truth. He spent 50 years on the ground, under trees, in forests, eating what ordinary folks could offer, clothing in plain clothes, ... And now people put His statutes in greatly lavished temples, put hierarchical titles on monks, (some monks) sell tickets to heavens,...

I respect the Buddha Gotama's wish to be at the same equal level  as ordinary folks, and I wish you would respect my wish to be just "sr" - a learner of no specialty or status -- just a handle for id.

;-)

Dear Ico48 ผศ. วิไล แพงศรี

I am glad you like my 'send up' in the ending. I have just come to appreciate "light" and how light has been a source for learning since dawn of Man.

I had a look at your ไร่ไอดิน-กลิ่นหญ้า and learned of your beautiful message for living with ordinary local folks. I think, this is what I like to see when I can clearly see 'the light'. Thank you.

Hi again ดร. ธวัชชัย ปิยะวัฒน์

The thought about 'light' as written has failed to express a flash of light I saw. A spot where a natural phenomenon is seen by Man.

- in olden days light was a God creation or a 'good' place to be

- in the (scientific) search for truth, light was/is a useful 'thing'

- todays, light devices are economic based of many hi-tech countries

I use religious materials to show differences in Man's views of light (not of religions). Personally, I am a learner. I look into darkness and try to shine light on darkness (without electricity and CO2 ;-)
