How to be alive
I have survived cancer for twelve years. In last April 2011, I had an annual cancer check-up and everything is all right. The doctor said that I had taken care of myself very well. My friends and patients have commented that I don’t seem to get older though years have passed. I know that cancer is a critical illness that may recur in later life. I have tried my best to stay alive and am rewarded with good health and look. The good things that have kept me healthy are as follow:
- Good food – I usually eat Thai food (no red meat and chicken) which has a lot of herbs and spices that have medicinal properties, fishes, organic vegetables and fruits, soybean milk, cereals, nuts, less salt and sweet; and drink two litres of water and herbal drink daily. I don’t smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol. I just drink some wine with my friends occasionally.
- Good herbal medicines – After I had studied traditional Thai medicine and pharmacology and got medical licences to practise as a doctor and a pharmacist of Thai herbal medicine, I have made medicines and herbal drinks for myself and my patients. I can let you have some to keep you fit and stay young. I have treated several cancer cases.
- Good mood – I have love in my heart and am always good-tempered, never take things too seriously. In my free time I like to listen to music or watch comedies. My faith in Buddhism makes me have positive thinking and try to maintain four cardinal virtues: kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy and equanimity.
- Good exercise – Every morning I have a morning walk, practise meditation and yoga, lift a light weight.
- Good evacuating the bowels - every morning.
- Good sleep – deeply asleep every night.
Good health cannot be bought. Taking good care of oneself is a habit well worth acquiring. My mother died of breast cancer when she was only forty-seven years old. Despite breast cancer, I still survive and can make others survive, too. I enjoy helping people. I’m very happy and my heart still wishes to live on.
I'm facing old age with dignity and am prepared to leave this world peacefully.
