Sport for Health or for Excellence
If you are a sport player, you must think what kind of person you are - a serious player or not a serious player. A serious player is like a pro: he or she aims for excellence, while the other kind of player is like an amateur: he or she aims for good health. What kind are you, Dear Reader ?
Any kind of sport player gets benefits or good results to the player’s body and mind according to this slogan, “ Sound Mind in Sound Body.” This simply means that a person who is physically good must be mentally good too. Some gyms have this slogan on the gym entrance. Have you ever seen one?
Before going deeply into the topic, “Sport for Health or for Excellence?” Let’s learn about great benefits of sport playing as recommended by Sor Sor Sor (Office of Health Promotion Fund.)
Sor Sor Sor says that regular sport playing is always beneficial to the player’s health to fight several diseases such as high blood pressure, heart failure, asthma, cancer, diabetes and obesity. If you have one or more than one of these sicknesses, please turn to regular sport playing as a cure.
Another benefit is found in bone strength and muscle flexibility. A Marathon runner (42.5 km) must have these good qualities to run a very long distance nonstop. A Football player must also have these same qualities to play 90 minutes in one match.
As a basketball player himself, this Sport English columnist always enjoys good health playing basketball regularly at the age of 66. He has no problems with his bones and muscles. You can be like him if you have good intention and good practice. Remember that “No one is too old to play sport.”
Because there are many kinds of sport for you to go in for : teams or individuals. When you become a team member, for example, you must follow your team’s rules and regulations strictly, with meetings and practices. Your team must aim for excellence in winning competitions leading to rewards, trophies, medals and, especially, honour.
If you are qualified to play in the coming 40th National Games in Khon Kaen Province at the end of this year, or in the coming 39th University Games at Prince of Songkhla University, Hat Yai Campus in the early next year, you must play excellently against your opponents to win games, then your team is N0 1. In this case, you help bring a great honour to your province, university and yourself. Some day, you hope to have your name in Thailand’s Hall of Fame!
Well, Dear Reader, this column might inspire you to join the sport arena, either for good health or for excellence. Also, keep in mind that winning or losing a game is not important, but playing spirit really is!
