As mentioned in my previous email, I wanted to learn more from Ajarn Mor+ Vicharn and I wasn't disappointed ka.
Part of his presentation was drawn from Ajarn Krisnapong Kiratikorn's book on 'วิกฤติกระบวนทัศน์ มโนทัศน์เพื่อการปฏิรูปการศึกษา'. Highly recommended by Ajarn Vicharn, I skimmed through laew ka but would need more careful reading ka.....will encourage you all to read too ka.
Key points Ajarn Vicharn raised that struck me most were:
1. Links of all educational levels (weren't really stressed in the Minister's speech).....this is crucial as we haven't done enough ka. We tend to see our higher education still in our own silo when in reality, our inputs are mainly from basic education and can be from vocational schools, community colleges, and non-formal education....and could be from other innovative models in the future???...and could be from universities to those institutions too???? Even it's stated clearly in the 15-year Plan of sor gor or, it isn't reflected so much in concrete terms and actions.
2. Be proud of our own DNA...Community colleges and vocational institutions should be proud of their own DNA. can't agree more....if we aren't proud of what we have and what we are, who will, jing mai ka? Anyway, the answer is still negative, we'd need to identify our uniqueness and build our strengths la ka. Other types of institutions should respect what they are too. Universities have no point to stay proud if they didn't perform their functions well either ka!
3. Manage our institutions with transparency....really liked it when he mentioned about the 'undertable' arrangements, including all kinds of special programs ka. I feel somehow we need to remind our universities of their expected roles to do good to the society and national development...not becoming far too 'edumercial' na ka.
4. Work closely with the real sector...to ensure that faculty members are updated with real-life work while sharing their own expertise with the sector. It's not ajarns to give, but for both ajarns and the real sector to maximize the learning for development.
5. Initiate the sense of learning through inspiration, love of learning and learning skills, and internally felt moral values..... this could be a better way of thinking and doing to ensure quality and life-long learning. We often stress the importance of essence of subjects as the key, and so have left these essential basics behind ka!
6. Join the World Ranking with 'sa-ti'---like this one best ka....I think we're going far too crazy, wanting to be in this ranking game na ka....the indicators used are only some that contribute meaningfully to the quality of our institutions and we could be different...so different that the ranking would never fit with our contexts at all ka.
Would becoming 1 of the 200/300 ranks guarantee the quality of our graduates mai ka? Um! I'm not sure if we can give a loud 'yes'. Of course, it means reputation, and possibly more students, more qualified facutly, and more funding (we need funding to cover expenses from joining this game too!). BUT we need to have 'sa-ti' to have the wise ways to use it for quality enhancement ka.
Ajarn Mor+ Vicharn's presentation made me think of Susan Boyle when she sang, 'I dreamed a dream.' and to me, it's always great to keep dreaming to drive actions and innovation for a sweet reality. I'd like to change the lyrics around (want to sing along??) to be 'I dream a dream as time goes by, with hope that's high and worth living. I see that quality never dies and we all will make it happen!

ผมอ่าน AAR แล้ว รู้สึกว่าข้อสรุป/ตีความ ของ ผอ. พรทิพย์ ดีกว่า ชัดเจนกว่า ที่ผมพูดเสียอีก นับเป็นโชคของผมที่มีคนเก่งๆ (และดี) คอยช่วย AAR การทำงานให้ เสียอย่างเดียว ท่านไม่ได้ AAR ข้อ ๔ “ถ้าจะพูดเรื่องนี้อีก ควรปรับปรุงตรงไหนบ้าง”
