Hi krutoiting :  All I know about "ถุงตะเคียว" is what I recall seeing in a งานบวช many many years ago. The "Official Thai Dictionary" (for "some" --but not "all"-- Thais) says:

ถุงตะเครียว
ถุงตะเครียว, ถุงตะเคียว: น. ถุงที่ถักด้วยด้ายหรือไหมเป็นต้นเป็นตาโปร่ง มีหูรูด สําหรับหุ้มถลกบาตร (ใช้เฉพาะในพิธีอุปสมบท).

A possible Pali word may be :  "taketi" = ro cover. (But I have no other supporting evidence).

I have to be more careful what I say (...er write) ;-)  You pointed out that Thai words can have more than once meanings all equally likely even within the same context.  So, ขำ.. ไม่ขัน can mean quietly funny (as in ขำ: น. สิ่งหรือข้อความที่มีนัย ไม่ควรเปิดเผย ) or beauty un-advertised (as in ขำ: ว. มีลักษณะหน้าตาคมชวนให้มอง) or ขำขัน = ตลก

I read your view on "land-trees-money" and still wondering about its story in the backdrop. Maybe you will write more?
