The picture you provided is that of the "new fashion" สาละลังกา -- a decorative tree from South America.

This picture from http://www.dhammajak.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=19537 is "the Pali มหาสาละ" a native tree of Northern India.

As we can see the real มหาสาละ is just a plain hardwood tree with winged flowers and ineditable  seeds. Similar to ลูกยาง the dry fruits or seeds still have wings (petals of floeers) attached. When dislodged, the seeds hang under spinning wings and if caught by gusty winds can fly some distance away from mother trees.
